Hello,

I am not currently on the Sinclair Method. I am actually almost 3 years completely sober. However, I have been having strong thoughts recently about drinking. I have never relapsed before. I drank heavily in my early-mid 20s which resulted in alcohol dependence and a trip to rehab. I have not had a drink since. I attended AA heavily during my first year of sobriety but have not been back since. I found myself miserable in AA and becoming dependent on it. I felt like I was becoming brainwashed by a cult and it was preventing me from happiness. I have been pretty successful in life; bachelors degree, good job as an accountant and currently in graduate school part-time for an MBA. I have always known about the Sinclair Method and even have a bottle of Naltrexone already because I was prescribed it when I first got sober. I am having all of these thoughts about how my drinking was just a product of my youth and maybe now that I am older and more mature things might be different. I know that this is probably pretty typical thinking for an alcoholic and could be a dangerous path. However, I feel like I need to know if I am truly an alcoholic or was just a problem drinker during college and a couple years after. It's odd that I am suddenly having all of these thoughts because the past 2 years I hardly thought about alcohol at all and have been around it constantly. I sort of just became someone who didn't drink and I was okay with that. I am hoping to start a family in a few year(28 years old now) and am starting to feel like this might be the time for me to experiment with these thoughts. I figure if I am not alcoholic and can control my drinking then great, but if not it would be better to find out now rather than when I am older and have more to lose. The reason I am posting on here is because I think if I were to start drinking again, it might make sense to just take the Naltrexone that I already have? Is it odd for someone to start the Sinclair method after being sober for 3 years? From what I have read it sounds like the method is typically meant to be for people who are currently drinking, don't want to stop, and have failed with all other moderation methods. Can someone please share some advice for me??

Thank you!!!!

There have been a number of people who have done just this. I'd suggest you look up the story of Bardo here.

There have been others that have started after a period of sobriety as well, some are on http://optionssavelives.freeforums.net/, some on https://www.reddit.com/r/Alcoholism_Medication

Bardo is also "Bardo" on OptionsSaveLives, Mercurial Freeze on the Reddit link.
