but I'm not sure about handing stuff out at AA meetings

That would be a sure way to get shouted down.

It would be interesting to leave a stack of copies of an article at the location right before an AA meeting. Leave 'em and get out.

I think it could help if flyers were left or posted at the AA meeting location(s). I wouldn't want to start anything that would make TSM look bad, or fanatical, etc. Maybe that would do more harm than good? :?:

Almost immediately after I wrote this, I agreed with all of you. I don't want to get involved with the AA side at all for now - I think it would be used against TSM. The New York Times article is good for promoting Naltrexone, but TSM isn't mentioned anywhere, which is a shame. It'a also too long for bypassers to read as they go in or out of a store. I think something very simple (with no AA bashing) with a link to this web site might catch the attention of some desperate alcoholics and/or suffering family members. There are grocery stores all over the place that allow flyers to be posted.

The New York TImes article does not mention TSM explicitly but it does describe TSM. It specifically references taking naltrexone one hour before drinking, the definition of TSM. It doesn't matter that Sinclair's name is not attached to it, the article is about TSM. That being said, an article for these meetings is definitely better than some document that could perceived to be a commercial advertisement.

Lena - your post was quite moving ...I hope you are able to help your daughter. I agree AA is something I would not want my kids in - you want the best, least painful route for them if they have this addiction, and you have found it. It must be beyond frustrating to see her go in the 'wrong' direction.

I was also very freaked out by the soberrecovery site...sad to read all of the failures, the desperation, even the demeanor of the posters...everyone apologizing to the moderators and watching their steps (no pun intended) was so demoralizing. Devoid of hope.

RV - many of us found our way here through MWO. I think I found MWO by searching on amazon for 'alcohol' and 'cure' or something similar and the My Way OUt book popped up. Can we add search terms to the site so that if someone googles or yahoos, this site will pop up? I know when you originally started the site you asked us to search for TSM on google to increase the hit rate for this site, I did so on both google and Yahoo...I still can not even find the site on Yahoo unless I type in the URL (typing in 'the sinclair method' yields no results for this site as far as I can tell). So, I think there are definitely some things that can be done to increase awareness via the internet alone. I would think terms like these would help, if it's possible to add them for search engines to find: 'alcoho'l 'addiction' 'abuse' 'cure' 'medication' 'craving' 'the sinclair method'.

Also, leaving comments on the amazon.com site would aid as well. There are so many people that need to find out about this treatment or baclofen - it's really ridiculous that we are just a tiny little island of lucky people here.

I like the idea of flyers at the supermarket (or library? bars?) - people may not pick them up but they may remember THE SINCLAIR METHOD and google it when they got back home.

Happy -- Thankfully for now, my daughter does not seem to be in danger of the dreaded "relapse". Sadly, I'm afraid that is exactly the effect AA/NA might have. They are taught that "relapse" is inevitable. And she's back to obsessing about something she had put in her "distant past", in her own words. But my main problem right now is that she's just so obnoxious about it that it's tough to be around her, like a typical cult member. Example: This weekend I mentioned Senator Kennedy's first wife and her tragic, chronic struggle with alcoholism, which continues today. A few weeks ago it would have been a springboard to discuss the latest developments in treatment; instead, she announced, "She's constitutionally incapable of self-governance." That old character defect crap. And her little pontifications make it clear that the topic is not open for discussion. My only option is agree and move on. I literally pray that this is a phase and will pass.

We actually are amazingly high up on the google search engine. N101CS has set meta tags (key search words) that the google bot picks up when it visits this board. The bot visits often; you will see it listed as a registered user online. We all can google sinclair method and then click the up arrow next to the link to this site and that will help. People seem to be finding us, and the more who get here from Google, the higher we climb in relevant search results.

Wow Lena, you obviously love your daughter. I don't see you biting your tongue for anyone unless you love them to death! ;) I also found your story very touching, but didn't know exactly how to respond, other than, "Man, life is hard."

Hi
Just a thought. Do you think that the stedfast stepper's would be more inclined the take a look at TSM if they could incorporate the 12 steps? There is nothing in the steps that actually says to stop drinking. Isn't it said that you go to AA with the desirer to stop drinking. I'm not a big 12 stepper even-though I was raised on it. You know when you get to the point to go to a meeting you are at the lowest of the lowes in your life, gilt, poor heath, feeling sh--t about yourself, broke and then your sitting in a room of strangers and the 4th step comes along. I just think it's cruel.

Lena...

That's quite an emotional experience. I can understand why the other recovery board is no place for you. Rest assured, there are plenty of folks here who will publish the message in other places whenever we can. You can do your work here where you excel and encourage people here in a less volatile environment.

:D Bob :D
