Virgil

when reading your posts (and I'm inspired by your dedication despite your frustration), a question occurred to me - would BMI (body mass index) be relevant with regard to the dose you take? The reason I ask is that your amounts are pretty similar to my own, and I know that my drinking led to me putting on a lot of weight as it accelerated from the 'heavy side of normal' drinking to where I am today. 100 uk units is going to be 5000-8000 calories, depending on what you drink, which is equivalent to 1 - 1.5 pounds of fat!

A bigger body is going to have more blood, on average, and therefore the dose would be more dilute. Maybe someone else here might know the answer to this one?

BMI is a ratio of body mass to height, which is irrelevant to dosing. What does matter is body mass. The bigger the person the bigger the therapeutic dose.

Hi Folks,

This is interesting. At present, I weigh 92kg (203 lb), so I'm no lightweight. As of yesterday, I am now in the process of increasing my naltrexone dose from 50mg to 100mg one hour before drinking (see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=681).

1-4-T-R, thanks for bringing this topic up.

Fingers crossed Virgil. And I meant to mention this before but I thought it prudent of you to stop recording your drinks for a while.

Hi Folks,

So, I have just completed Week 23 on TSM and, once again, I chose not to keep a record of units consumed. However, that may change in the coming week. For me, the last week has given me renewed hope at a time when I most needed it. This renewed hope came in the shape of an article referenced by Kris earlier in this thread. Once again, thanks Kris! So, I'm now taking 75mg naltrexone one hour before drinking and, by this time next week, I hope to raise that to 100mg. This is proving to be a very long haul.

Anyway, I'm certainly not quitting yet in the light of this most recent development.

Hi Folks,

Well, I've just completed six months on TSM. I have been taking 100mg naltrexone (one hour before drinking) for just three days. So far, I've not been aware of any side-effects from my increasing dosage at either 75mg or 100mg. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Fortunately, my dosage of the benzo clonazepam is now very low and I should take my last dose of this benzo approximately two weeks from now.

At the request of my therapist, I have started recording my alcohol intake once again. Last week's consumption was 97 UK units, which is 'par for the course' for me.

I'd really like to take a blood test for 6-beta-naltrexol in order to establish that my dosage of naltrexone is now at a level where I should see benefits from TSM. I will pursue this with my doctor.

In the meantime, the old soldier plods on.

V.

Hang in there, you have gone this far what's to loose. It can only get better!

Hi Virgil
Can you tell me about the blood test "6-beta". I'm afraid that I too will be one of the slow but steady to the cure ones too. I have drunk heavily for 25-30 years. I am not being very truthful to my GP so I'm not sure how to ask him for the test. Thanks for your help. Hang in there
