Hello All,

I have read that there are 3 indicators that TSM might not work for an individual (i.e. they may fall within the 10%).

- People who do NOT have close relatives who are alcoholics.
- Who do NOT like strong sweet substances
- Who have a particular opioid receptor.

My parents both drink heavily and while i wouldnt say my father is addicted per se (because he never seems to drink to excess in a single sitting) i think my mother definitely has a problem. But I do not have a sweet tooth at all. Obviously I dont know if I have a special opiod receptor.

I'm a little surprised about the sweet tooth issue. Is there a strong correlation between alcoholism and having a strong sweet tooth? If not, then i would think there are lots of alcoholics who dont have sweet tooths, and as such, would fall into the 10% category.

Can people email Dr. Eskapa or Sinclair?

Before I decide on going down the TSM route, I just want to make sure that there is no apparent reason that it would fail me. If I dont have a sweet tooth, is this an indication that TSM may fail me?

Many thanks for your responses.

Zman , above all I wouldn't let the three mentioned factors determine if you try tsm.
All the same ....
What you said about your mother is a favourable point .
My father was an Alky , my relation to sweets is balanced .
From the very start I always found NAL curbed my drinking and reduced cravings
so you wouldn't wait long to see some effects .
I'm approaching six months and feel I've further to go still , but I've drunk since around 1973 so expect it to take time .

zman,

to tell you the truth, I wasnt even aware of those indicators. I don't have a sweet tooth, I believe others in my family tree are or have been known to indulge a bit too much with AL.

From what Im getting, the only people who actually fail with TSM are the people who stop following it. Meaning they stop taking thier Nal one hour previous to drinking.

In my opinion. What other choice do you have other than TSM? Its the only method out there with scientific proof and evidence that it works.

Chances are it will work for you too.

There is a ton of support on this forum, and its only getting bigger and better. I would be surprised if you could not find similar stories, situations or patterns related to you during your travels with us down the TSM path.

No matter where you go in the universe 1 + 1 will always = 2. A scientific fact. And the scientific formula Nal + Drink = Cure, is turning out to be a fact for me.

Please join us on the journey to being cured.

hapful

Thanks for dropping by. I fit the first two and in fact have visited with Dr. Eskapa about this. Generally if one gets any effect at all from naltrexone then can be cured by TSM. It's certainly working for me.

You are referring to the info about the 10% for whom TSM does not work. Eskapa, p. 51

Sucrose produces an immediate endorphine rush when placed on the tongue. Eskapa, p.91

It's possible to drink one's way into an addiction without the alcoholic gene. I'm proof of that.

Little is known about the wildcard opiate receptor.

Dr. Eskapa is a member of this forum and so you may pm or email him using the buttons. He is quite busy and sometimes take w while to respond. We ask those who get a response via email (he often does that instead of posting because it's faster), to consider sharing his response with the group ir appropriate.

TSM works for the vast majority who try it -- 80% and of the 20% it didn't work for, approximately 10% stopped taking the naltrexone. So, it could easily work for approximately 9 of 10 who take it properly. So, the chances of it not working for you are very small. There has been some SPECULATION about the type of people who have failed on TSM. However, there have been NO DEFINITIVE ANSWERS about the type of person who will not succeed using TSM. In other words, if you are an alcoholic and can't quit, TSM IS FOR YOU. Countless members here do not have a sweet tooth and are seeing highly favorable results. What I'm saying is that there is absolutely NO REASON to think that TSM will not work for you. Try it, it works for the overwhelming majority who follow the proper protocol (naltrexone one hour before drinking, for life).

It's natural to have doubts I think, but 90% sounds pretty good to me! That's, what, 85% or so more than the long-term abstinence rate? For me, as an alcoholic with no control over his drinking, it's a no brainer.
