For the first time in 26 years, alcohol is starting to make me feel sick. The last two times I have drank (light beer only), I have felt very full and started to feel sick -- nauseous -- after only a few beers. Yesterday for example, I had three beers with dinner and could not put any more down. (This from a guy who can drink 15 beers in a night and wake up hangover free.) I actually stopped drinking and lay on the couch for a couple of hours before the nausea went away and when it did the thought of drinking more had about as much appeal to me as drinking toilet water. Until starting TSM and getting sick once after a wedding, the last time I vomited from alcohol was 1983. I have been able to drink HUGE amounts and not throw-up for a quarter of a century. However, the last two times I've drank beer only, drinking on naltrexone has almost had an Antibuse quality to it where it feels almost like I'm being induced to feel sick from the medication. I've seen others here report that they were starting to feel sick when they drank at their typical pre-TSM levels. Does naltrexone have an Antibuse-type aspect to it where it makes you feel sick when drinking? Or is it possible that my tolerance level is going down and now I'm starting to get sick "like a normal person" would if they drank enormous amounts of alcohol? It is a very weird feeling for me as someone who can literally drink 20-30 units in one night and not get sick. I'm not complaining as this is definitely a good thing, just trying to figure out what is going on.

I had the same exact reaction. I think that is the beauty of the process. I think this is normal

I don't really know, but if one of the hallmarks of a functioning alcoholic is high tolerance, it seems reasonable that one of the hallmarks of a normal non-alcoholic could conceivably be lower tolerance. Hard to see nausea A Good Thing, but maybe it is.

I have always suffered from hangovers but I have never really been as sick as I have been lately with the same or less to drink. I do not throw up but do feel like I could. I drank on Sunday maybe 6 glasses of wine over a long period of time. I was not drunk at all but have felt sick to my stomach since that day the sweating profusely also returned full force. Don't know which is worse, also been awake since 3:30 a.m.! Wondering if it is the Naltrexone or some sort of withdrawal syndrome?

Im only into my 2nd week, but every time I have drinken so far, that is totally what has happend to me. Pre TSM I could easily go into the next day drinking without getting sick to my stomache. But so far all my sessions have ended up with me just feeling sick by the end of the night. Any normal person would probably feel sick after 7-8 full strength drinks. It has to be the tolerance level. Like I said in one of my updates, its like Im a lightweight trying to drink like a heavyweight...I physically can not drink to my pre TSM levels. I guess thats a good thing, problem is instead of just cutting myself off so far I find myself nursing a buzz at the end of the night, thats the beast in me I think. Next steps will be to be able to cut myself off and no hangovers next day. Looking forward to that!

Anyway, thats obviously somthing new, and clearly has to be associated with the TSM. Im wondering now though, with this little "wrench or flower" (depending on how you view it) tossed in there, how will this affect your session drinking pattersn now?

If this becomes a constant, I would have to say that extinction will take place after a certain amount of drinks. Youll hit a feeling and a level of buzz that your subconcious will probably say, ok no more. Negative reinforcement beyond a certain limit. (Just my opinion ofcourse and theory I have been developing from my short tim on TSM and reading up on extinction studies.)

PlainVanilla said that your tolerance is getting lower like that of a "normal" person or even less. This has definitely happened in my case. Last night I ran an experiment on myself; how many units could I drink now that I consider myself cured? The answer: four units. I could not drink another drop and I forced that last one down. My old pre-TSM limit was eight in an evening without having a morning hangover and I could do this days at a time. Tonight I'm going to finalize the experiment by attempting a repeat of last night. But boy, am I looking forward to the remainder of the week being AF! It's nice having that AL monkey off my back!

Bob

I am new to the forum and have been reading furitively for a week or so (also the book). I have someone dear to me who I am researching this for...........and will be letting him in on it this weekend when I go home for a visit. I am amazed and so happy to read all of the success that is occuring on this board. Congratz too you all for taking this journey.

I did quote hapful on the 7-8 drinks it would take a normal person before getting ill. Heck I get totally sick on 4 and have a hangover for 2 days...........LOL I am not much of a drinker but I sure have my ciggie vice!!!

Well thought I would chime in and not be just a "registered" lurker.

Hopefully you will have a new member soon.........my loved one.

God bless to you all and keep your progress charted, it is a wonderful thing to see.

Hi Cali,

Im sure your loved one will recieve a very warm welcome here. I look forward to seeing them step in and start thier journey with us.

While I am only down the path a bit, the progress that I have already seen, may seem small in comparison to others farther down the path, I would already say that the changes are nothing short of incredible.

Please have your loved one come and read the amazing stories here, Im sure that they can relate to more than one member here that will inspire them to become "cured" along with us.

Best wishes,

hapful

Thank you all for your responses. And an especially warm welcome to you Cali, we love lurkers around here -- especially the ones who chime in! Please send your loved one our way -- TSM works and is nothing short of a miracle!

Best,

Nick

Nick, I have been feeling really nauseated almost every day for the last few weeks. It's horrible. Worst is in the morning, then by late afternoon is starts to ease up....having trouble eating, too. Never linked it to the Nal...I can still drink almost as much as I did pre-TSM.

Cali, wonderful of you to be so supportive to your loved one. That's a great gift. I hope he will join our group.
