I agree, a place where people who consider themselves "cured" would be good. A place where those who first started can transfer themselves, so to speak...They, the "cured ones". could easily check that site for personal questions, advice, etc - much like the thread to Dr Eskapa. "Cured" is alot of things to alot of people, but I agree w/ Bob 3d, that it has to do with cravings, and the habit itself.

I think there are many who started here, who feel the cravings diminished to the point...they are gone & consider themselves "cured". Not me, but like to hear from others who have.

Even though I have not officially declared myself cured, I do think it's inevitable. I am now drinking at safe levels on a weekly basis, but not yet on a daily basis.

I was curious as to what an objective definition of "cured" would be? Would it be drinking at safe levels such as NIAAA's definition of two drinks a day for men and one drink a day for women?

Any ideas?

Bob

For me, it was a personal decision. Once my craving level stayed at a low level most of the time over 3-4 weeks, I considered it game over. What this meant from a practical sense is that most of the time, I could really care less about AL. I have no doubt that I'll get hit with some kind of trigger at some point that will drive my craving level up. When this happens, I'll face it with Nal.

Remember, it isn't like we are just going to stop using TSM once we consider ourselves cured. I practice TSM today the exact same way I did the day I started TSM and will continue to do so the rest of my life. The difference between today versus the day I started TSM is that AL no longer controls my life.

I completely agree with you, LoOP. When I first arrived in late May, the posts from a minority of understandably frustrated people dominated the board. It's human nature: if things are not going right, you tend to vent more frequently. My point then was that there were several people who in one brief post would say "this is really working for me" and then you'd never hear from them again. As a result, the board was skewed with negative posts. At the time I suggested we start keeping track of the success stories via statistics, eg, putting people in a category like, "it's really working," "it's working somewhat", or "it's doing nothing for me." That idea was shot down in that most believed it was premature to post statistics.

Having a "TSM Success Stories" thread would do away with statistics but would also draw people to that post where hopefully lurkers as well as members could get an accurate picture of this amazingly successful treatment. My informal count indicates that TSM is really working for the vast majority here at varying degrees of success and that only a tiny minority have concluded (so far) that TSM is doing nothing for them.

I'm going to start a TSM Success Stories thread and hopefully people will chime in with their positive experiences. I'm in no way cured -- still drink way too much -- but with far more control, more clarity and fewer hangovers. If you had told me before I started that I'd have that type of experience, I would have called it a huge success. Now, since I'm fully expecting a "cure", it's good but not good enough.

Just want to throw in my 2 cents that a forum for the success stories would be great. I like the idea of those with success stories - declaring themselves cured, etc. to summarize it in one location. I am not on this site everyday, so it is sometimes hard to try and find all the topics I want to read and having one spot would be good and I think great for new people to come and read. I can't wait to add my name to that list! I am coming up to the end of week 17 and about to start week 18. I am trying not to get discouraged since I think I am at the place (weeks wise) where a lot of people were getting discouraged. I hope that I will round that corner in the next month or so and be able to share my own success story.

Thx Nick, if you do indeed start that success thread - I think many would appreciate and benefit from it...

Especially those of us who need a pep talk from time to time. Do it!

as the person who initially suggested a cured list/hall of fame etc, can I make one further suggestion for the official thread (the one currently locked)

- Link the persons name to their profile, e.g. this is Nick's profile and this is mine.
