I have not been on here in a few days, computer problems. Does anyone know what causes sticky keys or how to fix it. I am in trouble. Almost impossible to post. This is my lifeline and feel such panic! Any and all responses to this unrelated issue would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi LaBear,

If you're using a desktop PC (i.e. with separate keyboard), your best bet would probably be to replace the keyboard as this is a low-cost option. If you're using a laptop/notebook, it may be necessary to get the keyboard replaced by the manufacturer or computer repair technician. I'm assuming that you have several keys that are sticking.

Alternatively, try searching the internet for "computer keyboard sticking". I appreciate that this will not be entirely straightforward because of your problem keyboard.

Good luck!

V.

Hi LaBear,

Not sure if maybe you meant the Windows StickyKeys feature, but here is what I found on Wikipedia:

StickyKeys is a feature of Windows operating system (and possibly others). It is an accessibility feature created by Microsoft to aid users who have physical disabilities. StickyKeys allows the user to press a modifier key, such as Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or the Windows key, and have it remain active until another key is pressed. This program was introduced on Windows 95 and is also used on later versions. Bill Gates first came up with the idea. He thought it was an essential feature for Windows.

To toggle on the StickyKeys feature, the user should press the Shift key 5 times in a row and to turn it off press both shift keys at the same time. When activated a pop-up screen should come, and the computer should make an internal chirp.[1]

For Windows XP, StickyKeys can be disabled in Control Panel --> Accessibility Options under the Keyboard tab by unchecking Use StickyKeys.

Whatever the issue, I hope you find a solution - (computers are so annoying when they misbehave :x ), because we want to you keep posting!

Nothing to add other than whenever you get the issue fixed, we'll still be here. :D

Is it a hardware problem - i.e. the keys physically sticking when you press them
----Yes
---------Is it a laptop?
---------------Yes
-----------------------take it to be repaired
---------------No, it is a desktop with a seperate keyboard
------------------------If you spilled anything on it, try drying it out - either just time, or using a hair dryer - turn it upside down. Don't be afraid to give it a good shake to clear out any debris/dirt. Scrape away anything you can see with a small piece of wood/plastic - e.g. a pencil, lollipop stick etc. If it still doesn't work, get yourself a new keyboard
-----No
----------See Nicks suggestions above

Hey, everyone, thank you so much for all of this. Kris, you hit the nail on the head with your response. Dell didn't have an answer and neither did my internet provider. I was on from 11:30 a.m. til 8:00 p.m. one night with them to no avail. They actually messed up the computer even more. I did go out and purchase a new keyboard but did not know how to uninstall the old!!!! Not to savvy here. 1 4 the road your suggestion also helped. I did use the canned gas to clean out the keyboard and am hoping that has helped also. As you can see I seem to be o.k. at present. If it happens again good to know what Kris found and yes the darn thing was chirping like a bird and is a windows xp! Thanks again, up and running and reading through three days of posts! Oh and through all of this so far 3AF days. and one day I rather not remember, with 10 units!

Even if you're good at computer stuff, computers will still figure out a way to bite you in the a$$.
