I'm on anti-depressants -- right now Wellbutrin but I have also taken Pristique, Lexapro and Effexor. And yeah, I drank while taking all of them.

Ironically, my first bout with serious depression had nothing to do with alcohol, as I didn't touch a drop for 10 months+ when I was pregnant with my triplets. But after they were born, I had severe PPD and that was my first (but not last) experience with anti-depressants. Since then, I have had a couple other "major" depressive episodes -- when I found out my ex-husband was having an affair, when we divorced, and when my (now) husband's f-d up, cutting, truant teenage daughter moved in with us. So I've experience with a lot of anti-depressants and I drank through most of them! (Maybe that's why they never worked! :? )

I am currently on Wellbutrin but my psychiatrist keeps trying to add more drugs to the mix. I don't want them. I don't need more side effects to deal with. I know once I get the alcohol under control, whatever depressive tendencies I have will probably be lessened. (FYI, birth control pills also made me hugely depressed in my younger years, even when I wasn't drinking much.)

Not sure I answered your question, except to say that I really don't pay attention to the labels anymore, because you're not supposed to drink with any kind of medication, even Tylenol (though I think that one is quite valid with regard to liver health).

If we heed only one drug-interaction warning, let it be alcohol/Tylenol (acetominophen). Anyone who drinks should avoid it like the plague, and pay attention to add-in in cold remedies, sleep aids, etc. I know of actual cases where there has been severe liver damage, to the point where one acquaintance required a transplant.

Rx meds are often a combo of acetomin. & opiates -- a double whammy for us nal drinkers.

I explicitly asked my psychiatrist about mixing alcohol and Zoloft, Paxil, Buspar, Mobic, Naltrexone, Campral, and Valium, all of which I have taken at one time and every one of the meds say don't mix with alcohol and I found that hard to believe. He told me the only one to be concerned about is alcohol and Valium (a benzo). He then told me out of his 3,000 patients over the years, he's had 3 deaths total and all of them have been ruled accidental by ingestion of too much alcohol and benzos. The other meds, he said I could drink with. Personally, I have had alcohol with all of them including the Valium, and I can vouch for the bad combination of those two! The others have had absolutely no effect. Obviously, the Naltrexone is intended to be used with drinking.

Bob - the above is my personal experience and is not intended to influence the decisions of others one way or another... (take that Nick! ;) )
