I 've introduced myself but as I've said little about myself I'll put done some now.
Actually I do not currently drink that much compared to formerly , but it has been a very long and tortured relation with Alc . Starting quite dramatically with a very clear desire to get drunk when I was fifteen . I always thought I was a binge drinker and liked to take myself off on my own to strange places in big cities and drink , fairly content to be on my own but around life and enjoying what went on in my head . Efforts to moderate first set in around being 26/28 and I did an AA centred
hospital cure when I was 30 having gone off the rails when mother died .
vowed to seriously watch it and shook my self up into better behaviour threatening myself with gloomy thought of having to pack it in if I couldn't pull back, somewhere over the next ten the bingeing kind of slid into a maintenance type of drip , always with peaks too . It just seemed to become so crucial that i couldn't see
idea of Abst as livable . I arued with AA and went intermittantly until I discovered RR
which gave the best spells of abstinence ever over last couple of years.
Since going back to attempting moderation , relative sucess came about if I kept to
two or four drinks , it took considerable discipline and worked about fifty percent of the time, really surprised me after thirty five years . Yet it took effort and craving persisted and although the volume is well down why is this so ? Getting older plus
re learning in there too BUT , my liver is not too healthy , steatosis has been back and forth these last years . This is one the chief reason I hesitate to go on with SM
and I wouldn't hesitate otherwise . over next two weeks I want to see drs and sus out what to do and decide . In the meantime is there any one here (and I'll post elsewhere ) who has had fatty liver (steatosis) and can say anything about its gravity (because usual info seems a bit vague ) or what to do ? Or is it good to do the SM if i kept to say 30 u/wk thru use of dicscipline ?

Hi Elfern, I too have "fatty liver". After research, my Dr was happy to prescribe Naltrexone - to use with the Sinclair Method, ie, drinking - at 50mg/day, and see how we go for 3 months or so. I know little about the condition and, to be honest, haven't really enquired. Hope this is of some help.

Good luck!

PS: have just googled and there is plently there about fatty liver - can't bring myself to read it but the info's there if you want it.

Sasha ,
very good luck to you there , it is indeed exciting .
The stuff on the internet generally varies on how long it takes to loose fatty liver,
they nearly always suggest abstinence, sometimes reduction .
It's described often as a phase before cirhosis but does n't always develop into it regardless .That's really what i wanted to find more precision about when it turns,
I mean France is before italy but there's a long way between north and south .
Anyway Dr says can advance so ....
I too was given NAl today and officially jump in as of Now hep, hep , hep ! :P

Hi Elfern, that's really great news! Hope all goes well with initial dosage, etc. Let us know how it goes.
