Welcome AJ.

You are off to a great start. You are extinguishing learned behaviors that span (presumably) a long period of time. However, since you are relatively young for this board, maybe your unhealthy behaviors haven't been going on so long and I suppose there is a chance that you are already experiencing extinction. However, I doubt it. The process almost always takes months (3-4 months minimum) and the fact that your reduction was immediate, is an indicator that this is probably the "honeymoon effect." But, no worries, this is good news. I don't think anyone who has experienced the honeymoon effect has not made huge gains, both in reduced consumption and in cravings, while on naltrexone. If you are in the honeymoon phase, chances are good that you will re-escalate to close to pre-naltrexone levels. If it doesn't happen then great. But if does happen, as it has for almost all of us here, don't freak out about it. As I'm sure you've read over and over again, progress under TSM is a non-linear rollercoaster ride. BUT, you have already identified a key factor of TSM that does not go away: more control, more clarity and far less drunken, out-of-control behavior when drinking on naltrexone. I'm on week 6 and I have not once reached levels of behavior that an objective, non-drinker would find obnoxious. I know this because my live-in GF was all over me for this type of behavior on your average weekend pre-nal and hasn't been once since I started TSM. Also, I have not blacked out a single conversation on naltrexone, something I was doing an alarmingly high average of once a week or so pre-nal.

Anyway, glad your here! Welcome!

Nick

Welcome, AJ!

Ah, a fellow lurker. Yes, I myself lurked here right after the site got started. Then, I decided TSM was the way to go, and I joined to become part of this community.

You, my friend, may be a part of the Plateau Club (don't look for it on this forum, I just made up with the term just now). The Plateau Club is made up of people who have an immediate significant reduction from taking Naltrexone and then maintain that lower amount of drinking for many weeks before falling off the end of the plateau after "X" months. It's the day-by-day, week-by-week drudgery of no change in drinking habits that is quite often so discouraging to many. Please be prepared for it. But thankfully it will not go on indefinitely. Relief finally comes after the Naltrexone completes its job of extinguishing the cravings by rewiring our brains... all occurring without our conscious mind being aware of it. It really is quite remarkable!

So, "enjoy" the ride and the camaraderie here and "drink your way to sobriety".

Bob

Welcome AJ!

You have come to a great place!!! The first week I started my drinking took a nosedive! I was THRILLED! I was leaving half finished beers which under pre-Nal circumstances, would never have happened.

I am now finishing my 6th going into my 7th, and while my drinking is still less, I wish for it to be even less.

I love the feeling of leaving beers unfinished and turning drinks away......in time it will come again.

Don't get discouraged IF you have a honeymoon period, know that you are experiencing what most of us do, and that in 4-6 months, we will be cured!!!

All the best!

Hi AJ, yes welcome too to you! I have been struggling with my AL addiction for so many years and am excited for you to recognize it early on and to able to have TSM as a program of possibility. Good luck to you.

For myself, I have just returned from a party where I,. for so many years previously, would have come home not remembering who I spoke to, and what all the party was about. But today I came home after having only two drinks, and not really needing anymore. What an amazing change this is for me.
JUST A SHORT HELLO, BUT MY BEST TO YOU.... :D
