'lo folks, Archibald Haddock's the name, though most just call me Captain.

Been a "beta drinker" all my adult life with slowly rising doses until I hit the current plateau a few years ago. Currently I take three 330ml cans of beer, a half bottle of wine and 4-5 shots of whiskey every evening. Any more than that and I feel it the next morning. Up to that level though, I'm fine.

Fine meaning no hangover. Longterm health consequences are a different story. Most obviously I'm overweight. Don't even want to think about my liver.

Rarely get completely plotzed, and only drink evenings, so that's one mercy life's had for me.

Have tried the baclofen route which didn't work at all (although baclofen helped with my anxiety, which I wasn't even aware of but that's a separate story). AA (the metaphysical ectoplasm) isn't for the Captain, and SMART etc haven't worked. Found out about TSM a couple of months ago. Started taking Naltima about five weeks ago. The first couple of weeks the confounded stuff knocked the libido straight out of me. Couldn't get it up! Spank the monkey all I could, no can do, blistering barnacles! Then slowly, the flesh's become willing again and everything's in order down there once more.

Other than that, so far can't say anything's changed. I'll give it the full three months until I start making conscious efforts to reduce the drinking. Seems like before that it wouldn't make too much sense from all I'm reading.

So that's me, you befuddled ostrogoths.

Hi, Archibald. This forum is in its last stage of life imho so you may want to cross post here where it's a bit more lively:

http://optionssavelives.freeforums.net

Don't get me wrong the archives are valuable and when folks drop by they are a great resource, but...

Welcome. I'd suggest reading, 'The Cure to Alcoholism' if you haven't already. Those who do tend to have amplified results. Also the documentary, 'One Little Pill' is free on Netflix. You'll want to incorporate a mindfulness practice into this as one needs to work the protocol if you will. And be sure to never skip a dose and always wait the full hour or you won't get anywhere. Let us know any way we can help.

Welcome aboard thesinclairmethod and congratulations on getting started, Captain!

Archibald, it's ok to start pushing back against the quantity per day, as it only takes one drink (after taking the pill and waiting an hour) to move you a notch closer to "pharmacological extinction". So take that first drink slowly and perhaps start keeping your drink in another room, so you have to get up to take another sip. Keep an NA drink close at hand. What we're trying to do with that method is to break up the habitual part of drinking and make it harder than just having to bend your elbow to take another sip.

This gives the conscious part of your brain a chance to surface and vote on whether you really want that next drink, or even the next sip. When you get the notion that you've had enough for the evening, put the cap back on the bottle and stick with your NA drink for the remainder of the night.

Do check out OSL too, as Bardo says, it's a lot more lively over there.
