Hello,

I wanted to write this while it was fresh. After a month of abstinence I had a very stressful day today which resulted in the normal behaviour of me thinking about drinking. I thought this could be a good opportunity to start taking naltrexone. Just over an hour ago I took 25mg & I have just finished my first bottle of lager.

I have immediately noticed that I have not had that woosh feeling. That sort of tingly nice feeling that you get when you have your first drink, especially after a long period. There's definitely something very different?

Is this a good sign?

Welcome. Good news. Now you know the medication works for you. Your response is exactly what was supposed to happen. You'd be well advised to read, "The Cure for Alcoholism" and watch the documentary, "One Little Pill" if you haven't already. Your odds of success will increase. Take a peek at these two quick links:

Hello Bardo & thanks for your reply.

I have watched the documentary & looked at your links, thanks.

I woke up this morning with a slight hangover & craving slightly like I normally do after some beers the night before. I took a full 50mg tablet one hour before my first drink. I have had 4 drinks now & although I do feel drunk slightly, I feel like I cannot be bothered drinking any more & just feel tired.

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Tony.

The tiredness is a side effect that will likely fade. The feeling that you couldn't be bothered is precisely what we're looking for, so keep on watching for that in your drinking sessions and act on it. This is the conscious part of your mind taking the stage. You want to encourage and feed that every chance you get.

Often there are initial gains with Naltrexone that the addicted part of the brain fights, which can cause a "Honeymoon Effect" as the addicted part reaches out harder for it's "old pal". If you notice this happening (I can't remember the last time it didn't), slow your drinking down and do your best to listen for that "can't be bothered" feeling. There's often this back and forth with TSM, but if you keep a log of your drinking, you'll find that both the high drinking days and the low ones are getting lower as the months go on.

Good work so far, Tony!
