I'm thinking about alternating Antabuse with TSM. So I'll take Antabuse day one of the month. No drinking for 2 weeks. Then the TSM cycle starts. So on day 15 If I choose to drink it will be with NAL as usual TSM style. After a few days or when I feel like abstinence (my goal) I will pop another Antabuse and start the cycle again. This guarantees many more AF days.

Perhaps the hole in this plan is that there are less extinction opps. Not sure. NAL hits me so hard it makes me feel like a different person. It's bad. Kills my libido and I feel depressed. So the less NAL the better.

Why not just dump NAL altogether and go straight Antabuse? Probably because I'm still wanting to have drinking as an option on an upcoming cruise or vacation.

Hi there ... I have a question for you. When you are AF with the Antabuse, do you feel as if you are white knuckling? The only problem with doing that is something called the alcohol deprivation effect which is a temporary increase in drinking when one has been abstinent. Also - I used Antabuse to have AF days initially 'cos I could not have them any other way - and a few folk here didn't like that I did that - just giving you heads up. I admire you for going two weeks AF after one Antabuse too! I did not do that!

You said that Nal makes you feel bad - what dose were/are you on? how long have you taken it for? It is best if one starts with either a half or a quarter dose, let your body get used to that dose then up it until you are at the full 50mg. Take the nal with food or with food in your tummy too ....then wait the hour before drinking.

Hugs, Maggie

Maggie- No I am not white knuckling on Antabuse. I like that it takes away the back and forth decision to drink or not. I'm tire of that tennis match. It's not perfect, definitely a sledgehammer approach but I want to succeed. Hope all is well.

The way I see it, if it works for you then that is all that matters! And yes all is well with me thanks - I still do not want to drink. I came back from UK to USA recently and was stuck at the airport for hours with delays - I SO wished I wanted a drink - it made me laugh really. Keep us posted re how you are doing - sounds as if it will work for you.

Hugs, Maggie
