Snap - did you ever try Topirimate? It worked for me for 8 months - but I had to get to the highest possible dose for it to work - and at that dose it made me terribly depressed. Let me know if you want any info on it - I used to post on a thread at MWO when I was on it - I was Sunshinedaisies (!!) there!

SO sorry that Nal is not working for you - I feel your pain!

Hugs to you, Maggie

Do you fancy joining me Cheeto? Could we both post to each other every day with encouragement and see if we can do a month AF?

Hey Snap, I would love to try that but at this time it's tough as I have my whole family coming up to stay with me tomorrow for a week or maybe more? I have a hard time white knuckling it after a few days and wonder if that is good for me where maybe I should just stay with upping my dose to 75 mg for awhile to see if that kick starts my cravings being diminished? Good for you to be able to go AF for so long though. I have not been able to do more than maybe 2 weeks and that was super hard!!!
After the family goes then lets try and support each other as that would be good in any way possibly we can!
Nal On!

Cheeto, I thought you tried 75 already. Have you considered 100 after an AF run?

I am a 57 year old female and have been drinking for more than 37 years with the last 15 years a lot more and pretty much every day with hangover after hangover.
I have tried AA, Smart, Rational Recovery, looked into acupuncture, hypnotism, read a ton of books on alcoholism and have failed at everything. The other day I was searching again on the Internet and am so very happy that I found TSM.
The very next day after finding out about TSM I went to my Doctor and was prescribed Nal, starting TSM on October 14 2014.
I did take 50 mg the first day but had pretty bad side effects that night so I could not even drink. The next evening I took another
50 mg and again had bad side effects but did drink a bottle + another glass of wine. I figured if I was going to be able to take another pill the next day I would have to take 12.5 mg (1/4 of a pill) to get away from the nausea, dizziness, jitters and overall feeling drugged.
I stayed on 12.5 mg for 6 days to really ease my way into this drug. I do have a very low tolerance for drugs and have had bad side effects over the years on many medications so that is maybe just me as I have heard many people do not have side effects. I upped my dose to 25 mg and stayed on that for 3 days then recently upped it again to 50 mg and have been on that amount for 4 days now.
My first week my drinking was down but this last week I seem to be drinking more and have had more hangovers like today. Of course I took my Nal cause I will need to have a little hair of the dog to feel better. I can hardly wait for the day when I can get away from feeling sick from being hungover and drinking again to feel better, what a vicious cycle.
I also have gained over 10 lbs in the last few years and know it is from all the calories from drinking wine. I have always exercised to a certain extent and eat well but when I don't feel good after drinking I let it all slide as all I want to do is lie on the couch, eat comfort food and watch TV.
My Doctor prescribed me 3 months of Nal and said that is all she would prescribe me so I will have to buy it online from now on. I will need to get another 3 months worth of Nal by end of December as I go away to Mexico every winter for about 3 months. I heard that Mexico may have Nal but figure I should not chance it if they do not carry it or a Doctor there may not prescribe it to me.

Cheeto,

This is your first entry and it does look like you had a honeymoon. My honeymoon only lasted a couple of days and I think it might have been because I slowly increased my dose. Don't give up hope!

Thanks Joe & Jaba for the support. I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch but good news as I upped my dose to 100 mg on Thursday and did not drink at all after taking it that day. Took 100 mg again on Friday & Saturday and kind of drank as normal then last night my 4th night on 100 mg I stopped after 1 1/2 glasses of wine. I am staying on this course of 100 mg in hopes I can make my way to the Cured List.
Nal ON!!!

Now that is the kind of thing that I would expect to hear.

Got my fingers crossed for you, Cheeto!

Cheeto,

I am happy to hear that!

It sounds like going up to 100 mg is what was needed.

For you to dump out the rest of the wine (if you are any thing like me) is truly remarkable!

I hope this continues and AF days come natural to you!

Nal on,

Jaba

Hi, Cheeto. Just a thought since you may be responding at 100mg Nal. One member of our group found she had absorption issues that affected other meds so tried crushing her tablets and making liquid preps. After over a year of no success, she was suddenly in total control of her Al.
