Hello
I'm starting TSM this week. I've been a chronic alcoholic for 30 years. I've tried, like many of you, to quite cold turkey but this always ends in relapse after various period of sobriety. I tried TSM last year, but I didn't follow the protocol and I was constantly sick (detox?) and often skipped days to give my self a reward. After another year of heavy drinking, I'm back with new commitment to change my life. I'm very encouraged by the science behind the method and the success stories I've heard. I'm a bit worried because I'm having bad side effects, but through this post, I understand they should only last a week or so. I haven't slept in 2 days :(

My previous unit count, over the last year or so, has been between 80-90 units per week.

I wish everyone success and I'm happy to be part of the community.

Hi, Gottatry! Very glad to hear you're taking another run at TSM, sure hope the SE's lessen soon.

Have you tried using half a pill to see if that makes things easier?

Have you read the book by Eskapa? If so, then you will see why it is so important to follow the Golden rule - take the nal at least an hour before drinking EVERY time. Never ever drink without the nal - it will impede your progress! If you are serious about wanting to stop, you have to do this. I am hearing you say that you are rewarding yourself by not taking it - AL is not a reward - and you are possibly correct in that you were sick when you tried it last year due to detox on and off. It sounds as if you are ready this time to make this work - you just have to be patient and have faith that it works!

I wish you all the best with it and if you have not read the book, let us know - there is a PDF you can have here!

Hugs, Maggie

Hi Maggie1929
I do have the book and I understand the method. I'm following it closely this time around. I didn't have all of the information before. Sleeping is getting better a little every day, around 3 hours last night. Brutal but improving!!
Thanks for your encouragement. I'll keep posting in the progress section.

Best of luck gottatry,

Remember to keep NAL in different spots so that you have them if you need them. Keep some on a pill box on your key chain, in your car, in your office or work place etc. That will make it easier for you to follow the golden rule. Don't get discouraged if you do not see immediate results - just keep following the golden rule and the science will take it from there.

Good advice from Reboot...don't ever be in a situation where you are tempted because you don't have nal with you. I have on several occasions had to stall before I had a drink. Keep us posted!

The odds of success are overwhelmingly in your favor using TSM, gottatry. Just ignore that nagging voice in your brain that wants you to drink without the Nal, that is the voice of failure. Simply take your pill no matter what one hour before drinking and you will change your life and most likely extend it by many very healthy years. I did it last year and now I am a non drinker after forty years of heavy drinking. Good luck and stick with it.
