Week 38 was a good one - only 14 units over two days and 5 AF days. 0,0,8,0,6,0 and 0. So pretty happy with that week. BUT spring break and fishing trips on the horizon. So no cured list for me! But 5 days this week my body did not have that evil AL in it! WOW. Still can not believe this is possible by just taking a pill and drinking! Why oh Why is this not the norm for the treatment for all of the drunks and heavy drinkers out there!

Reboot,

Are your AF days coming naturally or is it a little difficult?

Just curious, for I had a heck of a time having AF days at first, and I was afraid after vacation they would be hard again, but nope.

I agree, WHY?

Maybe because the medical community, family, and/or friends, are so used to us lying about not drinking or how much we are drinking, they think we will be lying about taking the pill and waiting that hour.

Actually that was something I read in a medical journal/guide for family practice how alcoholics shouldn't be trusted with compliance with taking their medicine for alcoholism and to recommend an AA support group (not sure about the age written, and those aren't the exact words).

Reboot, I have to admit you are doing so good, for 5 AF day is remarkable and only 14 unit...remarkable! Sorry for rambling, but I am tired and the dogs do not want to go to bed...or stay off my lap!

Keep up the good work,

Jaba

Reboot, have you tried starting out with 100mg on your fishing trips, just out of curiosity? Well, you'll likely get there with 50 anyway...

Reboot you are doing wonderfully1 5 AF days! wow!! I know that you do tend to worry about your fishing trips - but the last one was not as bad as the one before - are you taking The Captain with you or is he staying at home? I am curious though - 14 units over two days is still a lot ( in my head anyway). So, are you happy with that? Not trying to be a downer here - just curious!

Hugs, Maggie x

I didn't think 14 units is a lot, but I guess it is how your are counting them (US vs UK units).

Those higher alcohol drinks do add up so fast. I had 2 long islands one night on vacation and I believe they should have had 3-4 units in each (it was a weak drink/watered down alcohol), so I can see how easy it can be to get to 14 units so fast. And the odd thing was I didn't feel the alcohol. I think I would have a harder time drinking 7 beers, but mainly because of the calories.

And, I would not suggest upping your dose just yet, for it is still very early. It may help; however, in doing so it may cause side effects and I would hate for that to ruin your trip. A booster maybe helpful if drinking longer than 12 hours (again remember barry and his side effects), or drinking in two different session. Again, find what works for you, and what you are doing seems to be working.

I think Maggie is correct, remember your last fishing trip, for it went pretty well.

Another week has passed and week 39 is a good one. 18 total units and 3 AF days. My only real complaint is that I do not seem to have the time to keep up with the posts and replies. But at least my time is not spent drinking ;)

Maggie I am not a 100% happy with 14 units over 2 days but back in the day - before TSM - that would have been one normal night. Not even a heavy night. But the way I understand the units, a bottle of wine is about 6 units, and often when my wife and I go out for dinner we end up going through two bottles. And with a glass upon arriving home it seems that 8 units can happen pretty easily for me. And when I do go fishing they are usually very long days. Often 6am on the water to around 8pm before I am finished cleaning boat and fish.

Joe, I have not tried upping the dose to 100 before the fishing trips. I do take a booster if the drinking goes on more than 10-12 hours. That booster is a half pill. I may give that a try sometime in the future. To be honest, I have to man up and try to kick the habit of having a drink in my hand when fishing. Feel real good about day to day life and not running for a drink when I come through the door. Or pulling over when I see a neon light glowing in a bar window. So for now, I am going to keep with the regular program.

Jaba, the AF days are very easy for me now. No urges and if I do have one I will take a pill and have a few. And you are right the units can add up quickly with wine and mixed drinks. And I am not sure if I am counting the units 100% correct but I am consistent in how I count them. Wine is 6 units a bottle. And my two shot Capt Morgan pour is 4 units and beer is 1 unit. And I do take the booster 1/2 pill if I am drinking for a long period of time.

Reboot,

It does sound like you are dealing with the habit of drinking, for if your AF days were difficult I would be thinking it was something else. Breaking a habit is hard, and it has to be replaced by something that will work for you.

If you have to have something in your hand (habit) replace it with a bottle of water, and if you do not like drinking plan water add something to it (those little squeeze bottle flavorings are handy and some have mixed drink flavors). It is just a suggestion, but if you switch out water for beer every other time your intake might be half, or you may just have a very full bladder ;)

And no worries about not posting, for if you are not posting and not drinking you are experiencing life! Life does get busy without alcohol on our minds all the time!

Enjoy life and nal on,

Jaba

All in all, sounds like you're doing pretty darn well, Reboot. Maybe go for Maggie's suggestion or even mount a drink holder on the boat so it's easy to get it out of your hand? I seem to remember there are the gimballed ones that go on a bracket, so you can get them out of the way for cleanup. Other than that, I'd say just stay the course because you seem to be getting there.

Reboot,

I just wanted to let you know that you have been missed! If you have a chance check in and let us know how you are doing, for worrying minds want to know. I am sure you are busy with life, but we tend to worry when you are silent.

Well I am back from a three week whirlwind trip that included the keys for a week with no internet and then to our beach house that did not have internet either. Was way to into the island mood to bother trying to keep up with the world via a small phone screen. Then I got a miserable fever that knocked me out for a few days. Now trying to catch up with life and bills and such.

Now - if I was you - I would be wondering if all of that was just a cover up for going off on a big bender! Many a lie has passed these teeth trying to cover up bad events. But alas, not this time my mates! I did have more than normal in the keys but nothing epic or even to point of forgetting. Well - except to forget to keep count. But I would say it was probably a 70 unit week the first week, but the next week was back to normal 16-20 and this week ending on Tuesday it was 4 AF days and 19 units. Wine with wife was the culprit for high 3 day count.

No real improvement on this fishing trip to keys to report - but glad I no longer keep partying on once I get back to the real world. I will continue to work on it and I did drink a lot of water in between those beers on the boat - problem is the length of the day when you wake up so early and stay up late. I had to take a booster almost every day because I was worried the afternoon one would be worn off when we ate dinner and had wine at 10pm
