Hi All...just started the method wedenesday and have hit a major roadblock. I took a 25mg NAL....drank a few beers then all of a sudden i was sicker than Id ever been. The nausea was overwhelming...I live thru it :D ...took a second 25 NAL thursday....didnt feel to bad...had a few beers and went to bed. However all day friday I felt like I was going to puke...very unpleasant...went to a party(no drinks) but felt like I was better off hungover. Later in the day drank with no NAL(couldnt deal with the nausea). I need to know this gets better. Its really bad. Can anyone offer hope or encouragement. Thanks

Hi, sorry you are having such a hard time. Most of us have had the nausea, but it does pass. I can only suggest that you have something to eat prior to taking it and it may lesson the side affects. It has past for just about all of us after a week or so. Some have stayed at the 25mg for l or 2 weeks to be sure and then gone on to the 50mg. Very few have been forced to stay at 25mg!. Others will pipe in here shortly I am sure! Good luck, hope you can stick with tsm and welcome also.

It gets better quickly, hang in there. I had the same thing -- severe nausea and didn't even want to drink at all for the first few days on nal. It went away after a week. EVERYONE else here who had nausea reports that it goes away almost immediately -- no more than a week, two max. Stick with 25 mg for a while until you are not feeling sick and always take naltrexone with food, not on an empty stomach. In fact, I initially tried 12.5 mg for a few times and that helped. BUT the studies are based upon 50 mg so that should be the goal. AND DO NOT DRINK WITHOUT TAKING NALTREXONE ONCE YOU HAVE STARTED NALTREXONE. Naltrexone blocks the opiate receptors in your brain, which actually results in an increase of opiate receptors. If you continue to drink with naltrexone, the additional receptors will be blocked, so no big deal. But if you then drink without naltrexone, you will get really loaded really quickly because of the increase in opiate receptors in the brain. LONG STORY SHORT and without the scientific mumbo jumbo: you are shooting yourself in the foot BIG TIME by starting naltrexone, stopping it and then drinking again without the nal. You will get more buzzed and will increase your addiction. Anyway, your body is just freaking out temporarily on nal because it's a new drug in your system. I was the same way but as soon as your body gets used to naltrexone, the nausea goes away very quickly. Stick with it, TSM works. You don't want to risk your life just to avoid a few days with nausea. And, it will pass. That has been the experience of literally everyone on this board. There are some other side effects -- like bad dreams and night sweats -- but they all go away in one or two weeks also.

I agree that nausea goes away quickly from what I have read from other experiences here, although I myself never had nausea when I started. However, there are a number of us here who still have the bad dream/night sweats side effect even after 4 months. In a way I don't mind having them, because it tells me I have the med in my system. However, most of us with the night sweat side effect do not have them every single night; it's hit or miss whether we are going to have them or not. On a good note, I have not read that anyone has retained the nausea side effect past the first couple of weeks.

Bob

Good clarification Bob. Yes, it's the nausea that goes away quickly. One month later and I still get some sweats and the occasional wild dream. I only threw the other side effects in there just so he wouldn't be in for any more unpleasant surprises.

Hi giant,

Welcome! I hope your nausea subsides. Whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP! TSM works, and it's worth all the intial discomfort. As far as I know, the nausea has gone away for everyone here within the first week or two. Hang in there! :D

Hi Giant!!!

I found that an OTC anti-nausea medication (liquid works best for me) is very helpful with the nausea.

Welcome, Giant!

When I started on Nal I took it as directed. The first night I got very looped on the alcohol. The second (.25 mg) same thing. I thought when I increased on the third night it would be bad since I was increasing to .50 mgs. I really felt great and with the exception of a few dreams that are vivid I now no longer have any side effects.

Best of luck to you and welcome!
