The doperimide , 1 tablet, worked well but only lasted about 3 hours. Which considering I paid $2/pill for it because the shipping (from India) cost as much as the tablets, maybe it isn't worth it I'm now thinking. Or maybe I should try two tablets.

The Mexican stuff I have horded from the many years I lived there, brand name Vontrol, worked a bit better. But that supply is running low. If I were you, Joe, I'd try upping that low dose dramamine and take it, say half hour before your nal. I'm going to try that myself.

Re these SE's being a nal over. For me I'm thinking not. Because I was getting them after a night of drinking only 3.3 units (3 ozs of bourbon.)which is at least 1/3 less than on a typical night and I never got hangovers from that larger amount. But maybe the nal attenuates the effects of alcohol? Dunno? Anyone?
****
Before Starting Naltrexone average per week--40-45 Units and sometimes more.
Week 1 -- Titrating up from 12.5 to 25 --29 Units
Week 2--25 mg--36 Units
Week 3 -- half week at 37.5, half week at 50 mg -- 29 Units
Note: SE's on starting dose of 25 mg so backed down to 12.5 and titrated up.
Week 4 – 19 units.
Note: started the week at 50 mg but began to experience uncomfortable SE's on days 4 and 5 so backed down to 37.5 mg. So far cravings for more than 2.5 units/day are still under control at end of week.

I hear quite a bit that people get nal-overs on a small amount of alcohol. I think it was Zontar or Reboot that I first saw talking about it, you can search on nalover or nal-over and see the comments. I actually started Gabapentin a week before I got the Nal, and the Gabapentin alone helped me clear my hangovers much more quickly. When I started Nal, the hangovers returned in an odd way, plus the SE's.

wasn't me that had Nal-over issues. yeah, I've experienced them, and it's a crappy feeling, but NOTHING like some people have. I know some users are devastated by the morning after if they drink heavily with Nal.....

I am the one who would get nal overs at the drop of a dime, to the point I had to force my intake down early on.

My last, about 2 months ago, one was with 1 1/2 glasses of wine (less than 9oz). I was nauseated, headachy, and wobbly the next day.

I had only one hangover I could ever remember was when I was in my 20s I split a gallon of whiskey with a friend (sick as a dog the next day).

Before TSM, I would drink 2 bottles of wine and at times with pint of vodka, and I would wake up drunk, but never a hungover.

I am not sure why my body is fine one time, then not the next, but it does make me think twice about my drinking and intake.

That last one, even though was a slight nal over, made me think twice about drinking for a while and it wasn't that bad. The thought, and the smell, of alcohol would make me slightly nauseated.

I think UK Blonde would say they come without rhyme or reason, and I believe it.

I have no answers, only my experience and I believe I am an outlier!

That almost sounds like an acetaldehyde buildup, like what antabuse would cause.

I think I mentioned earlier that when I started TSM with 50mg, I got up the next morning still feeling drunk. I can't remember that ever happening before. I dropped to 25mg and haven't had that happen since, even though I'm back up at 50 now.

Joe,

So you are back to the 50 mg? I guess you are pushing through those side effects, which has to be a frustrating experience. My heart goes out to you.

I just think about the people on Selincro that experience just about all of the side effects listed. I am a wimp when it comes to side effect, and I have stopped a lot of medicine because of it. It is funny because the nal plus the alcohol would cause nal overs to the point I thought I was going to die, but it never once crossed my mind to stop the alcohol completely. I knew I could tolerate the nal, so that wasn't the issue, it was the alcohol causing those nal overs. I guess it shouldn't surprise me, but it does. Maybe that is why I forced my intake down, for that was just the wimp in me.

Joe, this had me googling, and it had me thinking about your dizziness. I found this article which made a little sense. It is just a thought. http://www.wellnessresources.com/health ... in_humans/

Very interesting, Jaba!

Yes, I wonder if there isn't a common theme with TSM'ers that have extended SE's. It stands to reason that there might well be. I'm going to pose the question to my TSM doc, and if he doesn't have an answer I may see if I can get it in front of Dr. Eskapa's eyeballs.

Thanks for that link!

Joe,

I was just thinking that maybe R-alpha-lipoic acid could help with the side effects. I not really sure about the article itself; however, I have noticed my sensitivity to smells has lessened since my alcohol intake has been lowered, so maybe there is some logic to it.

It's certainly worth looking into. There's got to be some explanation, and if one is found, then at least a workaround might be had.

T.O - I had a Nal Over on 2 Guinness once! I also had a Nal Over on 6 Guinness! I agree with jaba - there truly IS no rhyme nor reason as to why they happen sometimes and not others. I have no idea if Joe's SE's can be attributed to Nal Overs and yes maybe trying to get an answer from Dr. Eskapa would be a good idea. Also Joe - do check out Jaba's links - she is really good at researching things!

Hugs, Maggie
