Welcome back Ayla,

I am glad that you decide to take the plunge! The side effects for Selincro can be a little harsher, but it sounds like you breezed through it...which is awesome.

When I took it last night I thought waiting 2 hours would be difficult, after an hour I lost the urge to drink, after the 2 hours I had to force myself to open the wine.
However once I started drinking I didn't have a problem downing two bottles. But your right there wasn't much pleasure in it, more I had it so I drank it kinda feeling.

This was me. I drank because it was there, and my brain thought the more I drank that "ah" feeling would come. It takes some of us longer for our brains to realize that pleasure is not going to come. I found pacing myself helpful, drinking water in between sips, waiting to refill that glass, and always asking myself "do you really want this". I would find myself saying to I do not want this, but still pouring that glass and drinking it, for it took time for my brain to catch on.

Interesting comment about sometimes making hangovers worse, as I'm sitting here wondering why I feel so bad lol.
I would get nal overs to the point I thought I needed to go to the emergency room, and I had to force my intake down so they do not happen (not advised for you are to drink like normal, do not force anything). So, it is possible that you are experiencing a slight nal over, but it could also be a side effect of the medicine since you just started it. Time will tell. The best thing I could tell you is to drink a lot of water or electrolyte water, for it will help hydrate you (I read somewhere that hangovers are caused by dehydration). Tomorrow, try to pace yourself, and take sips of water in between sips of wine and listen to your brain, for you may find you do not want that next drink.

Keep us posted,

Jaba

Hello and thanks !

Night 2!!

So took tablet at work at 4pm, left work at 6 and went for dinner, had one cocktail.

My partner who I should add drinks as much as me and is in the same situation asked what I wanted to drink from the shop to take home. So I said anything not bothered.

And I wasn't !! Could have happily had nothing.

Anyway it seems he misheard me and thought I said I didn't want to drink so he came out of the shop with nothing. I didn't confront him about this whereas normally I would be panicking and saying what are we gonna get? How many bottles do we need to get that buzz? Drunk?

Get home, he's sulking. I said I'm surprised you didn't buy anything so he said I thought you didn't want to drink. So I said I'm not bothered about it.

He has left now to go to the shop as he really wants a drink!! Me I'm not bothered about it!!!
Such a weird weird feeling.

It's almost like I can compare the way this tablet makes me feel against my partner who is like my drinking double!!

It's very odd. This feeling where it's not taking over my whole brain thinking what can I drink!
I will have one when he gets back but drink it slowly and really think about how much I want it or don't as the case may be.

I hope this carries on :) I feel way more in control already!

Tomorrow I'm at a casino on a cocktail making experience lol a belated birthday gift. So I shall take pill number 3 and see.

Quite amazed, when I return to the doctors I will be begging for a prescription.

Hi thanks everyone :))

Guess what I had one glass of wine and a small one at that all night !!

My partner had bought three bottles!! First time ever I have some left over (unless he drank it all after I went to bed!)

Is he supportive? Yes I think so Altho he doesn't seem keen to try it himself. Which is fine I guess for now as I'm trying to see how this works for me. Then maybe I can encourage him, ESP if the doctor will prescribe it as its so expensive to buy :-(

Think I am suffering a few side effects:

Not sleeping well waking up every few hours
Lack of interest in food and can't eat as much (not a bad thing as need to lose some pounds !)
Upset stomach ~ setting off my IBS symtoms a bit but nothing I can't put up with

I'm planning that if I can cut my drinking down to two nights a week which generally I can do then the selincro will stop the binging on those nights and cut it down a lot.
If I can drop my blood pressure and prove to the doctor it works he might prescribe. He told me he has patients with drinking problems in all the time be nice to open up an alternative route of treatment other than AA which is all he recommends :-(

That would give him impetus to get a bit more TSM-friendly, especially if he has patients that just can't manage with AA/abstinence alone. There's considerable "harm reduction" with Nal for sure. I've noticed my heart rate has dropped quite a bit since backing off on the booze.

Excellent news on the drop in consumption and I hope the SE's get sorted out soon!

Nal on!

Ayla,

It sounds like you are having a wonderful honeymoon period and I do hope it continues; however, do not get discouraged if your intake increases.

I am excite to hear about your progress.

Jaba
