GuyJeb,

I am so sorry that she is not open to counseling, for that dumfounds me. My heart goest out to you, for it sounds like you are ready to live your life and she wants the old you.

The problem with being sober is that is forces you to deal with feelings and emotions that is normally stunned or subdued with alcohol.

I wish I had a solution for you, but I do not.

I think maybe a couples night out so you both can reconnect might help.

Just be your new self and the great guy that she fell in love with and she will come around.

She still loves you, the emotions of the pregnancy has her on the emotional rollercoaster, maybe you need to do something for her to remind her of that (actions speak louder than words).

I wish you luck and a tranquil week,

Jaba

For the sake of your children, I hope you can get your wife to agree to counseling after the baby is born. I grew up in a family with a lot of fighting and discord. It is not healthy for anyone.

Just wanted to give a quick update.

Things with the Mrs did get better and we had a long 3 hour talk. Things are basically back to normal now, with a little bit of an awakening between us. Our relationship has gotten better, many things have gotten better in fact, which is very good for the home.

Alcohol continues to be 10 drinks or less a week. Last week I think was 8 or 9, but dont remember since I poured out the rest I didn't want to drink. Something I never could do 6 months ago.. I am considering trying out a 30 days no alcohol test run, since I think I can do it now.

As for Marijuana, it has been a great experience getting educated on MJ. There are MANY resources, including some very good documentaries, and some very bad ones. "The Union: The business behind getting High" was probably the best educational documentary I've seen on it (Free on youtube). This changed my wifes opinion of MJ over night. She now hopes it gets legalized in California by next year (which it will according to our Lieutenant Governor)

I smoke probably 4-5 times out of 7 days a week, and usually close to bed. I've re-learned how to have dinner with the family, which has been nice.

So all in all - I just wanted to report in on the current good news.

I am still seeing my Therapist, learning and discussing about polyamory. That is still a very difficult road ahead when I choose to take it. it will require couples therapy i'm sure. The hardest part about it all is how much it conflicts with our religion. I imagine I'm going to lose a lot of friends at that time... But I keep coming back to "what will make us happier?" In the end, if we are incompatible, I'm not sure forcing us to stay together will make anyone happy except our friends and family. Is that what we truly want?

Anyways, I should get back to work. Working the weekend :( but OVERTIME BABY! :D

Thank you for the update GuyJeb. I am so happy about your drinking!! What a success story!!

I don't like to smoke things (my Mother died of emphysema) but I am interested in the information about MJ and its legalization, so thank you for the recommendation of a good documentary.

I am also very glad for all of your sakes that things are better at home, and especially more peaceful. It will take you some time but I hope that you figure out what is best for all of you. Those are never easy decisions to make. Marriage is very hard, for sure. I wish the best for all of you.

Hi all.

It's been a LOOOONG time since I posted here. Things were going ok for quite a while. But I had to change Insurance's - which means I lost my doctor. My 2 doctors afterwards both were unwilling to prescribe Nal. As a result, I am buying it online - but it takes almost 30 days for it to arrive. So basically I ran out and continued to drink. I'm pretty upset about this. The last doctor tried to get me on "Klonodin" which is actually a Blood Pressure medication.

Last night I blacked out from drinking and my wife is pretty pissed (She should be). I think I fell asleep watching a movie after dinner and she had to wake me up and get me to bed. This has not happened in over 8 months. It's very discouraging for me

So - I'm back on the hunt for a new doctor that is willing to prescribe it. in the mean time I've ordered 60 more Nal and I currently have 10 on hand.. This sux. Because I know myself better than anyone. I think I cannot make it 30 days with only 10 Nal.. But I'll have to try. This stuff really needs to become Over the counter. I'm very thankful that the C3 foundation is doing so much work for us. I should donate to them..

If anyone's followed my thread - I tried MJ as a solution. It worked for a while as long as I kept to my own rule of No alcohol while on MJ, no MJ while on alcohol. and of course the TSM golden rule as well. The great thing about MJ is that you get no hangover. Mornings were so much better because of this. The worst thing about MJ is that you really cannot function like I can with alcohol. If you have too much, you are f'ing done. I even tried the edibles, and that knocked me out for 2 days. Whats worse is that because of this, I choose to "Medicate" with mj after the kids are asleep - so this is like 9pm - having MJ at 9pm then going to sleep feels great. But waking up is Terribly difficult. Because MJ does the same thing as Alcohol - It prevents you from having Deep REM sleep.. oy.. so i'm not really a big fan of MJ now

I am now back on TSM and I believe I will be a TSM'er for life. As much as I hate to belive this - I am going to have a Life time medication prescription. Because I'd rather have that and drink 0-14 drinks a week, than to be "medication free" and addicted to Alcohol.

ON the lighter side - We have a 2nd son as of Feb 1st! We named him Titus! :)

Welcome back, Guy Jeb, and congratulations on the new family member!

Perhaps check out Dr. Karla Lacayo at Mercy Medical Group in Folsom, another member that comes by from time to time mentioned her. She's not a verified TSM doc, but does use Nal for AUD. Another possibility (not on the list yet) is around the Bay area:

http://www.fusion.healthcare/Naltrexone ... od.en.html

There doesn't seem to be any phone number on the website at this point and the initial visit is rather pricey ($425). Might be something to check into...

There's also this list of docs that have prescribed Nal from C3:

http://www.cthreefoundation.org/california.html

Though it would take some digging, as it may have not have been the oral form that they prescribed.

Where did you order your Nal from?

Guy,

Welcome back! Congratulations on the new addition to your family and I love the name Titus...a strong name for a strong boy!

This infuriates me! Maybe if you tell the doctor you want the nal for cravings and that you are trying to be ABS. I have never heard of a doctor refusing to write a script to help someone with their addiction; however, this shouldn't surprise me, but it does! Heck, in Cincinnati you can get a Narcan kit without a script, so why is it so hard to get a script for nal...does not make sense to me, but hopefully things will change.

Hopefully you will find a doctor soon, for paying out of pocket with a new baby will be an expense...a big expense that you do not need right now. Could you go to your old doctor and ask them what rates they would charge you for out of pocket? Some places have special rates for patients that their insurance will not cover, esp. if they pay in full at the time of the visit. And, you could ask the insurance company if you could continue with your doctor, because you prefer to continue with his care, and they may pay for part of the visit. If they say no, you could tell them you have been to 2 different doctors and they refused to write a script for nal and you have AUD, and maybe they could give you a doctor.

I wish you luck and hopefully you find a doctor soon,

Jaba

Welcome back Guy Jeb. And congrats on the birth of Titus.

If you really think you are going to run out and still drink, you might try cutting your pills in half. Lots of folks have success on 1/2 or even 1/4 dose, and while I wouldn't recommend it while you are having trouble I think it is better than no coverage at all for that long a period of time.

Maybe your new order will come quickly.

Hang in there!!

I checked in for Dr. Karla Lacayo. Apparently they do not take my new insurance. The fusion center looks good, but a bit costly.

Basically what it came down to is that we had "Blue Shield net value" ( Of Blue Cross. A "Not-For-Profit" company mind you) and only paid under $100 a month for Family insurance. In 2015, they decided to up that cost by $270 a Month! Luckily our employer helps pay for this cost. So instead of paying out of pocket $370 a month for Medical insurance ($4,440 a year), we opted to switch to the cheaper United Healthcare insurance that only accepts Sutter medical. This saves us over $3,000 a year. So in the long run - it's better for us to do the above and just buy Nal out of Pocket. But man, it should would be nice to not have to pay that extra $70 a month for the prescription.

Anthem Blue Cross is doing it again too. They seem to love Rate Hikes. http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0400-news/0 ... 044-15.cfm The more and more I learn about Medical insurance companies, heck even "The Affordable Care Act" (Obama Care), this is a very profitable business. And it truly is a business. Big Pharma is currently approaching 5 Billion, with Insurance (including Medical) right behind it.

Anways - I'll stop my soapbox.

I'm currently getting my prescription online through AlldayChemist. What sucks about it is that it's expensive shipping and takes 30 days to arrive. But it is better than having nothing

Wow I never thought of this. I'll have to try this until my other prescription comes in.

Thanks guys, Talk to you soon.

Might be worth checking the out of pocket for Dr. Lacayo. If you have a prescription, you can use GoodRx.com to get Nal for $40, possibly less. Might even out in the long run?
