That's wonderful to hear Skippy!!!

I started TSM last June and without even trying, unless you consider taking a pill one hour before you drink trying, I have not been drunk or hung over one day since and I've lost 20 pounds, not - even - trying!!!

I know the feeling. On my way home from work after an entire day of promising myself not to drink there were a handful of stores I could stop in to get my 12 pack of cheap beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon was my favorite. I drive or walk by these stores all the time now and don't even think of it. It doesn't even cross my mind. There just plain and simply is no need to.

I have not lost all interest in alcohol, or well to put it another way, I have not lost interest in beer and wine. I say that because I actually like beer and wine because I like the drink. The alcohol does still have an effect and I probably still drink for that as well but it's now more about enjoying the drink and not the drunk. Well, I never really did enjoy the drunk, the drunk was a side effect of the drink but I think you know what I mean.

One question though, so far for me 1/4 or 1/2 pill is all I ever take and it works for me but, when you don't drink for a couple of weeks and then take 100mg's do you not get any side effects at all from the Naltrexone?

Hi,

No, Naltrexone doesn't bother me at all. Never has.

That is so encouraging! I am in month 3 and while I have cut back some and am happy with my progress, I still feel the urge every day (even if out of pure habit) and my danger zone is still drinking at home. It is still too soon to determine if going up in dose is necessary, but it is great to hear a similar story of my concerns and that there was a solution that garnered freedom!

Congrats and thanks for sharing! :D

Derien - yes it is WAY too early to even think about upping your dose. The book says 3-4 months but in my opinion, that is way off - very few folk on this forum have had any joy with that time frame - except Ocean of course - and one or two others. It took me 11 months. But persevere because it DOES work - just follow the golden rule and have faith and patience!

hugs, Maggie

Really? Because I actually upped it to 75mg for the last few days. Is there anything wrong with upping it? Will it hurt? I don't want to go 11 months :(

Derien - I do not think it will hurt - I just do not think it will help and basically is a waste of nal. I did try upping it a couple of times in the time that I was taking it and it didn't do anything for me .....

Hugs, Maggie x

Hi Derien.
Liver damage occurs with Naltrexone at doses greater than 300 mg daily. 75 mg is well under that dose so it's perfectly safe. Some people even have to take 100 mg Naltrexone to get cured, and this is still well within the safety limits.
Good luck.

Just to paraphrase the latest guidance from Joanna, 50mg is the minimum amount that Dr. Sinclair found to completely block the endorphins.
