I know, newlife. and I have a massive pet cemetery in my backyard to back it. :( that was my mantra coming home from the vet "the heartache is SO worth it". just makes me appreciate my crappy cats all the more (I'm a crazy cat guy, but these two are monsters!).

Zontar - I cannot imagine life without my furry friends - we have two dogs and two cats. And like you, had many in the back yard (although we had them cremated), and yes, when one dies, I think to myself 'never again' - but then something happens and another one is put across my path - and once again, off I go! They bring so much joy to my life though and ask for so little. I have always loved this:

If a dog was the teacher, you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Take naps
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm and stop when you have had enough
Be loyal
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently
Be always grateful for each new day and the blessing you have
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY

Hugs, Maggie x

wish me luck! I'm going on another 5-day AL-free "bender" starting today. I decided to because we are about to get hit by a big blizzard and I might have a couple of snow days off from work (I'm a teacher). that usually lends itself to drinking and doing nothing. also, I'm going to see my friends' band friday night and go dancing w the spouse. usually I only have a couple of drinks there anymore, but it'd be cool to go the whole night straight-edge just to see what it's like. so M-F I'm going on the wagon again.

I have a bunch of great books and movies to keep me occupied, and I know I'll pay more attention to those without AL. we'll see how it goes....

day 2----massive snow day! went to bed at 1130pm, only rain. woke up at 7am to about 4" of heavy snow on the trees and 40mph winds, and more snow coming down. lots of branches breaking already; I suspect we'll lose power sometime. no wine in the house, thank heaven! lots of coffee, tea and Alfred Hitchcock movies today!

Have fun & good luck with the "Bender" Zontar!

Sometimes with life being so hectic, we forget to enjoy Snow Days like when we were kids!
