Hello. Have been researching Sinclair Method for a few months. Was wondering if anyone knows of a doctor in Western Canada that supports this method. My GP can only recommend AA - which I have done - benefitted from some of it, but thought alot of it was detrimental to any solid recovery. My story is similar to Curi's in the sense of significant sobriety, but would like to consider alternatives to abstaining.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi and welcome,

I don't personally know of doctors who follow TSM in your area but I do know that Naltrexone is easily prescribed. Many of us here just ask for Naltrexone for abstinence and then do TSM privately, when we have regained control, we go back to the doctors and explain the method to them and show our results. We have to do this because most doctors think that abstinence is the only treatment for alcoholism and when an active alcoholic tells a doctor about TSM they are seldom taken seriously and are accused of things like wishful thinking and finding excuses to continue drinking etc... and do not receive the medication. But when we go back after regaining control and with full knowledge of the treatment, they listen.

So, that might be something for you to consider.

Are you still abstinent?

Why are you considering TSM?

Curi

The Interior Chemical Dependency office in Kamloops BC does telehealth for TSM. You can contact them at info@chemicaldependency.ca.
