Maggie, is a "widget" the little plastic marble thingy in some European beer cans? I remember drinking Boddingtons in London 20 years ago with a "marble" that dropped into the can... in fact, was JUST trying to explain it to my husband last night. I didn't know it had a name! And what is the purpose of it???

MM - the Guinness with the widget is like a draught Guinness - and without the widget it is just not creamy - so I Googled it and got this:

The purpose of the widget is to release the CO2 from some of the beer in the can to create the head. The widget is a plastic, nitrogen-filled sphere with a tiny hole in it. The sphere is added to the can before the can is sealed. It floats in the beer, with the hole just slightly below the surface of the beer.

I thought about writing it but decided that it made me look clever (LOL) so thought I had better 'fess up and tell you it was copied and pasted!

Without the widget, the Guinness tastes like bottled......

Hugs, Maggie xx

Hi Cheeto,

Look in the "Cured" list for my thread "gone, just gone" about my experience about upping the dose.
You may also want to talk to Claudia or one of the other C3 girls, they may have some advice.

Cheeto,

I have a friend that is a beer snob, and only likes the best tasting beers from everywhere. Let me know the type of beer you like and I bet he will be able to tell you a comparable beer in taste in Canada and Mexico.

In the meantime I found this about Mexican beers:

http://www.transitionsabroad.com/listin ... down.shtml

Maybe it will give you a hint about the different tasting beers.

Jaba, Thank You for the link.

When it is hot in Mexico a cold cerveza is much better than a glass of wine so when in Mexico I prefer Sol, Dos XX's, Pacifico, Modelo light or really any lighter beer. So that should be an easy transition.

At home right now it is cold and snowing so a glass of red or white wine is preferable to a cold beer or a mixed drink on ice, Brrr!

Skippy I will read your thread on the Cured list, Thanks.

Maggie I have never heard of a widget in a beer, weird but cool!

Hope y'all are having a nice Sunday...

Cheeto,

I cannot believe that it is already snowing there! Yuk!!!! We have been having unseasonal warmer weather in Cincinnati, but the last couple of days it has been in colder and flurries . I am so ready to move somewhere warm all year around!

I hope you enjoy your time in Mexico, and if you are near the beach, I hope all of that pink algae is gone...it made walking on the beach very hard.

best of luck on 75mg Cheeeto. I've just upped my dose from 75 to 100mg & I'm cautiously optimistic that it's working better for me. I'm also taking the pills, waiting 90mins & eating dinner before starting drinking, which seems to help too

Thanks Badger, hoping the upping my Nal will help me like some others have had. Hoping you upping it to 100mg and doing what you are doing will help you reach your goals too. I am also trying to wait at least 90 min?

Jaba, yes we have had a few snowfalls but not a lot of snow but it's cooooold! I can hardly wait to get to the warmth of Mexico. I have not heard anything from the people that are there now about any pink algae, sounds pretty though!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Cheeto,

It wasn't very pretty unless you got to see it from the airplane (it looked like floating islands in the ocean it was that massive). It usually floats toward Africa (I think), but since the ocean is warmer and had less breezes it floated toward Mexico. It smells pretty bad once it beginnings to decay and becomes spiky once it dries (hard on the feet). It is actually brown, but from the air it looked pink.

It is most like gone by now but here is an article that shows how bad it was.

Here is another website that list the beaches and an update

Temperatures look quite bearable in Mexico.

Yesterday, I went hiking near Melbourne and it was 43C/110F.
Could have done with a cold beer after :)
