Hi
Been quite a few weeks since I've been on and working in retail can be quite hard over Xmas. Kept taking the Nal consistently and its definetly helping. Had a few blips with a blow out and a bad hangover but I can definetly say I feel as I've turned a corner. It does help in Jan that your peers are having a dry ish month off the beer and that has helped me to try. On my third day off it which I'm pleased about and made a decision to go to the gym the other night instead of drinking. Worked well. Last nights football would have been unheard of to not have a drink and even though I realised I had 2 cans left in the fridge I didn't have any. Thought about it and the little demons said just have the one but is not had a Nal and by the time 1 hour would have gone I thought it's not worth it. Well pleased with myself. The only thing was the second day I came in from work exhausted and yesterday I had to go to bed after dinner as knackered. I wonder how many calories we all get from beer / alcohol such that when we stop the energy levels drop off. I guess it doesn't help I'm eating better and less junk. Lost 4 lbs in 3 days even drinking loads of water which I'm chuffed about.
Down to my last Nal , struggled to get some from reliable r but Joanne helped to which I was thankful. Bought some naltima and Nodict this time as not much price difference. I know they are supposed to be the same but I've heard people like the naltima more so I thought I'd try that. Hopefully get here soon but in the meantime it's also one way of not drinking if you don't have any Nal. Sorry for the ramble. Thanks for all the support over the last year and I'll keep posting. Hope everyone wherever you are have had a merry Xmas and a happy new year and I'm sure this year will be a good one.

Mark,

It sounds like you are making remarkable progress! I am glad you can push off from having that drink and continue with having AF days, for I had a heck of a time until I was further along. Isn't it a nice feeling to have alcohol in the house without needing to drink it, or thinking it isn't enough to last the night? When I heard people were like that I thought it was a lie, but it does happen.

When I gave up alcohol I did feel a little sluggish. Maybe you can replace those alcohol calories with more complex carbs (fruit, whole wheat, oatmeal, veggies etc.), for it will give you the energy that you body needs. Unfortunately, sugar is something that alcoholics crave once their intake goes down, and I have found grapes help, for it curbs that sugar fix. I also freeze them to help me eat them slower.

Calories in beer is depending on the type, so here is a link:

The lack of energy could be the combination of less calories and less carbs. When I gave up milk (I only drank 1 cup per day), it felt like I didn't have any energy at all, for the lack of carbs was draining. It took me about 2 weeks to get past that hump.

Your progress looks awesome and keep up the good work,

Jaba

Hi all.
Quick update as I've not been on here for awhile. Feb , March April - all good months. Going to the gym , losing weight and generally getting in shape. Less arguments with the missus as well. However had a real nightmare getting hold of some more nal online to the point where I ran out and went to Spain on holiday without. Now the drinking is creeping up again quickly do I've finally ordered some and should be here soonish. Rubbish really and making me seriously think about going to a doc in the uk. Still , from where I was to where I'm going to get to I'll keep trying.

Mark -

Word from CThree Europe is that Nal is available over the counter in Spain and France. Have you tried Pharmacy2u?
