Cheeto,

I did read that at the airport in Mexico you can get anything without a script (unsure if that is still true), but it may cost more. When you go to Mexico I would bring your bottle with the label on it so they see the name and look it up an alternative the computer.

I am unsure about how much it would cost to see a doctor down there to get a script, but it may be cheap there than in Canada.

I just wish that there was an alternative out there for you.

Hopefully something will come up,

Jaba

Hi Jaba, I checked at all the Farmacia's on the Island I go to in Mexico and none have heard of Naltrexone, Revia, etc? I was told River Pharmacy does ship Naltrexone ONLY to Canada but when I called them they said they are out of Naltexone but took my number so hopefully they will get some in before I leave Dec 30th?

I am sticking to the Golden Rule and will not drink without my Nal. Pushing for an AF day today cause I have been drinking everyday and way too much, feeling sick and yucky!

Nal On!

Hi everyone, thought I should check in as I have not updated for awhile. I have upped my dose of Nal to 75mg for 2 days now. The first night I did drink probably a bottle of wine but last night I only had beer in the house so only had 2 beer. Beer is not my favorite alcohol to drink and is filling so maybe that is why I only drank 2 beer. I am trying to not have any other alcohol in the house right now but it is hard with the Holidays here and people dropping in where I feel I should have something to offer them as pretty much all my family and friends want a glass of wine or a beer when they come over. I also need to buy some wine as I have been asked to bring some when I go to a few Christmas parties but will not buy it until the day I need it to keep my temptations of drinking it before down. I think I may buy some low cal Beer to drink at the parties and see if switching it up keeps my daily count down?
Hoping anyone out there that has upped there dose can comment on how it worked for them. If it did work how long until you felt it working?
Thanks guys and hoping you all have a great weekend!
hugs xoxoxo
Nal On! 8-) 8-)

Hi Cheeto!

I'm pretty sure that if beer was my only option, I'd be able to cut back, too! I'm just not a fan of the taste of it OR the feel of it in my tummy.... I get so bloaty! Who knows, though, after acclimating to it, I might start enjoying it like I do wine! ;-)

I think your plan for trying to by wine on the day you need to bring it somewhere or offer it to guests is a great way to limit the temptation to drink! You're doing great!

Cheeto,

I wish I could comment on the upped dose, but I haven't done it. I was thinking about it since I still have cravings, but I wanted to give it a full year before I did.

Switching to a lower alcohol is something that Generic did and suggested. He said it is hard to get drunk on Miller 64 (which is like drinking dog p***). I always thought beer was okay, not something I would really want, but lately I have been craving it. And when I first start TSM I thought beer tasted better than wine.

I would have to buy the wine at the night of the party as well, for it is something about giving away a bottle of wine that makes me want to open it before hand...maybe I didn't learn how to share in kindergarten...so I think that is a great game plan. Anything to keep temptation at bay.

I hope you have a great weekend and let us know how you respond to the increase of dose. I think trying it for a couple of weeks cannot hurt.

Jaba

Hey Cheeto,

Check out Maggie's thread - she recently upped her dose and has had some great results. Best of luck making it through the holidays.

You make me laugh Jaba ! Oh - and why not try Guinness? That way at least you are getting some nutrients in you when you drink - but get the draught in a can with the widget - that is the best! Just remember to refrigerate it for at least an hour before drinking it or else it goes everywhere !

And Reboot, Cheeto and I have been in touch re upping dose - I do think it is a good idea to wait at least 8-9 months before doing so though. Cheeto has been at this for longer than me - so hopefully this will help her now. Fingers crossed !!

Hugs to all, Maggie xx

On lower alcohol beers, there are some better tasting choices:

http://dailyburn.com/life/health/healthy-best-beers/

Montucky Coldsnack (pint cans) is another, but might be hard to find, at 4% ABV, Deschutes "River Ale" also at 4%.

If you want a really decent tasting 0.0% beer, Bitburger Drive is as close as you can get IMHO, but pricey at $10 for a sixpack.

Hi joesixpack, not sure about getting some of those beers as I am in Canada. Also our prices are crazy expensive compared to the US with all our taxes.
I will be in Mexico soon for 2 months so I think Mexican beer may be lighter than our Canadian beer?
Thanks
