Having an af night tonight after work. Doesn't even seem to bad. I think when I don't have the beer in the house and can't buy it it's a lot easier to accept you aren't going to have a drink. Will wake up a lot sharper tomorrow and help the family a bit more. Feeling more positive tonight. Need to keep this going a little longer. Hope everyone's well.

Mark

How come you are not tracking your drinks? It is an easy way to see your intake and see your progress. I found it a little embarrassing at the beginning to see how many units (really wished i stuck with drinks at the beginning) I was downing. Then I was always happy when it started trending down. Disappointed trending up. Which made me "more mindful" of my drinking. Just a suggestion - does not have to be perfect - nor do you have to post it here if you do not want. But it does help

What Reboot said. Tracking drinks made a huge difference for me. I did not have a good beginning of the week, but writing down those numbers, made it easier for me to be more mindful later on.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. Yes I am tracking my drinks on an app on my phone. On uk units so not sure how that compares to some on here which I guess might be different measures. Think it would nd good to note weekly how I'm doing so I'll try in the future. Had a bad weekend starting drinking early Sunday afternoon. All day etc. Missus on Monday threatened to walk out which she hasn't ever done so I'm feeling a bit **** at the moment with myself. Taking the pill 100% , I know it's still early days , approx 2 months but even my wife says I seem to be drinking more. Am doing the water alternating with beer but Sunday wasn't great. Had an af day yesterday and planning to just force through some non drinking days. Xmas is around the corner with kids presents etc and the money I just drink away is a complete waste. Tried telling the wife it takes more than popping a pill but she wants to see some results sharpish.
Last 7 days - 62 uk units. That's not good. U.K. Recommended amount is 3-4 units a day and the new info I've read is that the experts are saying there's no safe limit. Anyway. Back to trying.

Mark - I am so sorry about what your wife is saying - has she read the book ? maybe she needs to so she can realise it is not going to work in a few short weeks- I hate to say so but I have been taking the Nal since January! Can you have her post here to talk to us and get some sort of support ? Mrs truffle is a spouse of Mr Truffle who is taking Nal and she posts ! Maybe they can PM each other ?

Please do not lose hope - it is NOT a quick fix by any means - it is for some but they are few and far between.

HUGS, Maggie

Hi Maggie.
She hasn't read the book unfortunately. I've just read oceans posting from start to finish and that was quite inspirational. I've just been thinking back and actually I have come a long way from where I was. The Nal definetly takes the hit away from the beer and I'm less hyper or giddy on it which she recognises. It's just most Sunday's which aren't great so if I fix that by going out that will help. Want to sort things so I'm better there for my kids as well. We've had a good talk now which by not having a drink last night had helped. I'm sure I will get there. Working late tonight so I'll take a pill and have one before I get home so it's worked its magic.
Thanks again.

Everyone has a bad day here and there. I always like to think of what it's like to be normal. Sometimes even normal people have bad days and get drunk. It's just more important for us to not kick ourselves when we are down. Sounds like you have the right attitude and that will carry a lot of water for you on this journey. Every once in a while I still feel that primal urge. The Naltrexone is doing it's job one hundred percent but there are these old memories of how and why and when and where I used to drink a lot and they are so deeply ingrained in the brain that they are hard to shake off.

This is where a bit of mindfulness can come into play. Drinking water like you do is part of that but so is for example waiting just a bit longer before you start drinking or as you say just go and do something else. If the Naltrexone is working and doing it's job then mindfulness can address the other reasons why we drink. TSM takes care of the physical/chemical problem of addiction but not the whole package. Our habits, like for example drinking and watching football every Sunday for the last 25 years, are not at all easy to break. But you can do it and I think overall it sounds like you are on the right track and have the right attitude.

Good luck!

Quick update.
I've been running a bit low on the Nal so decided to split in half and it still seems to be working. Had a bit of a blow out last sat , however Sunday was a lot better and no arguments with the wife. Had a bit of a break through moment I think for me anyhow last night. Had the 4 Stella all ready , took the pill well before I started drinking. Had a pint of water first and I've started alternating water with beer and actually didn't have the 4 th can. Which for me is a big thing. Took a bit of thinking not to but not that hard really and it felt good. Got up this am nice and early and helped the kids to school which doesn't always happen. In fact last Friday I didn't get up till 11.30. Less of a hangover as well which is great. Got much more done today so feeling really positive about things. Started doing the weights again which is good. As a side thought I've just had the email from reliable rx to say free delivery over 150 dollars. Anyone in the U.K. Use this service or is there a cheaper one ?

Mark - keep working it. The process is slow most times but it sounds like you are starting to feel some effects and the results usually follow.
