Oh Gosh, it does sound like to do it their way is likely to be your better option.

Please keep us posted, here's wishing you the best of luck.

Thank you very much for everything.

The one thing turning me away from this site and the method is the very low number of drinks reported by members. I hope it all works out for you folks, but I drink up to 140 units every week, and I don't think the Sinclair Method or this site is meant for people like me. I tried to post a message about alternative medications like baclofen and acamprosate but it didn't get through.

I wish you the very best,
Greg

Regarding liver tests, I can already predict that they would be disastrous, and I can also tell you that my drinking level is 130-140 units per week. That's a LOT of booze. I had liver tests done back in 2001, and way back then they were bad, with the GGT many times above 50, and the ones starting with A not too good either.

Hey Mate,
I am going to be cautious here because I am not a doctor.
Nal is far less harmful to the liver than etoh.
The Sinclair Method is a natural way to detox, allowing your body to dispense with alcohol at a natural pace.

I do believe we have others from down under using SM but I may be wrong.

You sound like a ideal candidate for SM and the sooner you can reduce your consumption, the better. Consult with your physician and if he will not sigh on for SM, then convince him you want Nal for abstinence.

Good luck my friend.

Greg,

I posted my pre-Sinclair units at around 40 plus, but the truth is I had managed to get them down considerably over the last few months, white knuckling, and mainly because I had started a new business and realised I could not be falling around in it drunk if it was to have any chance of survival and failure was not an option. The 40 plus units have been quite a recent and short-lived achievement I can tell you.

Around 5 months ago I estimate my units were at least 80 per week, and considering I am female, that is not so far off your 140. I think the Sinclair Method, and certainly this site is exactly for people like us.

Basically I think the method is for anyone who wants to get their drinking under some sort of control, many of us here have tried just about every method known to man, but we have not been able to stop, the amount of units is totally unimportant, the only reason we mention them at all is to gauge our individual progress.

Please don't dismiss the method. Nothing else has helped me like this.

If NAL is allowed by prescription in Australia would the customs be worried about it ?
This is an imporant question as paying to River pharmacy ( an option I consider ), has a price - here in France NAl is prescribed ( but SM wise , I don't know yet )
Marbella got delivered in Spain , so .... does anyone know about this , shouldn't River Pharmacy themselves be doing the right thing too and not send where there'd not be welcome (by customs ) ??

I don't think River would be delivering to countries where the goods were likely to be confiscated.

When ordering online became popular, Spain retained a lot of parcels- I had ordered a bunch of vitamins of a US site, and got a phone call from customs. I was advised to forget about them, but it was quite a big parcel and I refused to forget and eventually got them. When I went back to reorder of that company a few months later, I saw they were no longer delivering to Spain- obviously parcels were not getting delivered and they were getting complaints and although it was not their fault I guess they had to reimburse the customer.

There are a few countries River won't deliver to, for sure that is the reason but Australia is not one of them.

I would just call River's customer service department and ask them.

BTW, Spain seem to have relaxed their rules these days, but I get my Nal from a local doctor- he seemed happy to give it to me for abstinence as long as I greased his palm with his rather hefty fee.

Thanks again to you all for responding and being supportive. This support is something I'm not used to, and I'm very grateful for it.

My last post was written while feeling very negative, as would have been obvious. There is no scientific reason why the Sinclair Method would not work even at my high daily drinking level. I'm in a very real hurry to cut my level way down, and that's a big reason for my doubts about the method in my particular case. Just as my reason for drinking is the instant effect, I also have an enormous desire for an instant and dramatic effect from treatment. As we know, that is an unrealistic expectation, as the Sinclair Method requires several months of persistance and a gradual reduction of craving and drinking.

I agree that naltrexone is far less damaging to the liver than ethanol. I'm just worried that I will be denied a prescription once a doctor gets my liver function tests back. I doubt that I could get a script without agreeing to the liver tests. I do agree that I should just say I'm using the medication for abstinence if I do get access to it. I don't personally know of anyone else in Australia taking Nal for use within the SM.

I may well be wrong about the customs issue after having read your comments, especially about River shipping it here. I agree that they wouldn't do that if their shipments were likely to be blocked. I will contact them to ask. It's the almost Nazi image of our customs, allied with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), intercepting drugs of all types that had me concerned. Of course Nal has no potential for misuse/abuse so they wouldn't regard it in the same way as illegal drugs. We have a TV show called Border Security that probably made me a bit paranoid!

Thanks again folks, I'll keep you posted.

Hi Greg

Glad you are still here and still considering this. I can offer no advice whatsoever being a newbie (day 2) but do sincerely believe there is hope here for all.

I'm sorry you find yourself in such a dark and frightening place - I'm sure many here (self included) can sympathise totally.

Good Luck to you and take care
Shasha

Hi again Greg

I can understand you want a method that is going to help you quickly- the great thing is for the first week you probably won't drink hardly anything- I found this week gave me a huge boost to my self-esteem and helped me tremendously mentally as well as physically.

So in a way it does work instantly- OK after that you have a couple of dodgy weeks where your drinking may go back up, but just be alert and maybe try using a bit of willpower there, (I did not, but Dr. Eskapa says if you can by all means do) and after those few weeks, things just seem to get better by the week with the odd hiccup thrown in of course.

We say it takes four months to work, but really it is working from day 1- it just takes four months to complete.
