Today is day one. Had one bottle of wine. No craving for more. Started with 25 mg. Made me sleepy and irritable, but not too bad. Have to figure out how to do the units.

Hi Susie,

Welcome to the forum. the units are sort of a pain. There are various websites that help you convert the bottles and drinks into a standard unit. As long as you do it consistently that is all the really matters in my mind. What you were drinking before TSM and what you are drinking as you start to get control of your drinking. It really helps track your progress and your setbacks.

Best of luck and keep posting it helps others as well as yourself

Welcome Susie - I agree with reboot - as long as you are consistent with the units that is the main thing. And UK units are way different to US units too! But if you Google it that should help.

Hugs, Maggie

Susie,

It is depending where you are, I am in the US and a bottle of wine has a little more than 5 servers (5 oz per serving).

But it is depending on the % of alcohol.

There is an app for that if you have a smart phone. I would find one that has good reviews and works for what you drink. I just got my first smart phone yesterday  , so I haven't had a chance to find a app for myself (I am a wine drinker as well and I haven't tried anything stronger).

I am excite for you and to see how you progress.

Jaba

I used an app for my Droid called Alcodroid it was very easy to use. I'm not sure how accurate it's units are but you can create your own. I drink mostly beer and beer comes in all different sizes and alcohol content so I could program in for example a regular pint shich would be 5% alcohol, a strong pint which is 8% and so on. Then after you finish the drink you just open the app hit a button and it records it for you. Then you can download the data and make graphs and that sort of thing. As for wine I just took a measuring cup and found out what 5oz looks like in my favorite glass. there just happens to be a graphic line on the glass so I know where to pour it to equal one unit.

If you go to a party or out to dinner or something just try and make a mental note of it and program it in later.

good luck.

Welcome, Susie! Good luck and keep us posted. Don't stress too much about the units but do keep track. My intake went way down when I consistently tracked my drinks.

Susie: I don't stress too much about the units, I just try to make sure I am consistent and honest with myself. A bottle of wine is 5 US units in my book. A "regular strength" alcoholic drink with about 1 oz AL is one drink, something stronger I count as 1.5 or 2, depending on the strength. I don't drink beer so I don't count that. Others get more precise, just pick what works for you. It is a pain to track but it does really help to keep us honest and for us to see through the fog what is happening.

Welcome and I look forward to reading about your progress.

xoxo newlife

In my drinking days ( I was a wine drinker) I drank far too much wine to consider buying it in bottles. To heavy to buy and carry, too expensive, and too many bottles to have to get rid of. I switched to 5 ltr boxes to solve the problem. Then I purchased various sized wine carafes to fill from the boxes. I started (a long, long time ago...) with .5L. At the end I had a liter carafe. I have always counted my drinks long before I ever heard of TSM. I always thought that by counting I could control (not).

Anyway, if you drink like this it is easy to count. Even when I began exceeding the liter carafe I would then pour individual glasses, so my count would be something like "1 carafe + 4 glasses".

I am not sure it's important to match everyone else's units. You just need your units to be consistent so you can monitor your own consumption.

So last night had 2 glasses of wine and 3 shots of rum. So it's about the same as the first night. I'll call it 5 units. I got my husband to start TCM with me. It's funny, we both get the same effect, the liquor still feels good, but different and the craving is very much reduced to a "take it or leave it" level. He was testing it out so drank more than I did and had a hangover. I didn't.
