I thought it would be interesting to track this here, and get comments, and see where I go.

I've been overdrinking for years as mentioned on a previous thread. I've quit before for very short periods of time (30 days), and I've drank in moderation at times for longer periods of time (1 year). But, I struggle with anxiety at times. When I do, I drink. I drink to cure anxiety, and drinking causes anxiety, and some of you will understand that endless loop that you can get caught in.

Right now, I don't know what my goals are. Moderation? Abstinence? I don't know. Just something different.

I had a PA that was open to writing the prescription, along with another one for Risperidone. I'm feeling better. No idea what is helping.

Also, I don't have a clear idea of how much I was drinking before starting the Sinclair Method. But suffice to say, 14 beers at a time wasn't odd, on a weeknight.

So here's how it went.

Oct. 1 - Took half a pill as I left work. Made me feel sick for a little while, but a beer seemed to calm my stomach an hour later.......Ended up drinking 9 12 ounce light beers.

Oct. 2 - Took a whole pill. Didn't feel any worse, but still not good. Drank 8.

Sometime in the next few days, didn't notice feeling sick at all, other than maybe some indigestion.

Following days, I drank

7
10
8
8
7
8
8

So, I haven't been on a midweek bender at all. Haven't woke up feeling like crap. Haven't blown up at my wife or kid. Haven't done anything stupid. Is the Nal working that quick? Or am I just in a better mood? I don't know. But I'm moving forward. It does "feel" like I don't need to drink. It "feels" like a "fun" thing when I do, instead of a "need". Could be my imagination, but I'm happy.

Wade,

If that is a lower amount than your usual intake, then yes the nal is working that fast. You are having a honeymoon period, and it may end. If the honeymoon period ends it might be scary, for you intake may increase. This is just part of the process.

I am glad you are tracking and posting. We are all interested in your progress, so keep posting and the good work!

Jaba

Sorry to hijack the thread - but Jaba - you have taken down the ability to PM you - is this on purpose ? Just had a question for you and noticed I couldn't PM you .....

Hugs, Maggie

Maggie,

I went in to play with my profile and to figure out how to bookmark something and I hit something. I do hope I have it figured out, so if you could pm me again when you get a chance.

Jaba

Welcome Wade. Just remember for now that Naltrexone + Drinking = Cure.

Follow the golden rule and read the book if you have not yet. Keeping track is very important part of the whole experience. For me and many that are successful with TSM the first thing we notice is that when drinking one hour after taking Naltrexone that urge to chase the first drink rush is gone. If you notice that then consider that a good sign.

Welcome, Wade and good luck! It sounds like you're off to a great start... Oh how I envy you early responders! You started just about the same time as I did, though I posted here (incessantly) for the couple of weeks prior to starting Nal while waiting for my scrip to arrive! Again, good luck!
