What are the books by Alan Carr and Jason Vail that are being mentioned here? I'd be curious to possibly check one or both of them out. Thanks!

Allen Carr - "The Easy Way to Control Alcohol":

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Easy-Control-Alcohol-Allen-Carr/dp/1848374658

the basic premise is that AL is dreadful stuff, it's a poison, no-one needs it to live an enjoyable life, it's all a big con by drinks companies, etc. I don't necessarily agree with him - I certainly didn't when I firrst read it about a year ago, although I'm somewhat more receptive now - but it's an interesting perspective

I liked it and as I said I did stop drinking with it - some of it I didn't like the way he put things - like the goblin - so I changed that in my head ! LOL But I DID stop drinking with it - and this has reminded me that I need to get it out again. The Vail one - Jason Vail worked with Carr before Carr died, and then put out his own book which is pretty much saying what Carr did but in a different way. Carr also had one out for smoking and then quit - and died of lung cancer eventually when he died. It IS worth a read! And funnily enough, one has to drink (or smoke) while you are reading the book.

Carr didn't stop me from drinking however he does give a really good perspective on alcohol, the stories we tell ourselves which are just daft.

For instance alcohol actually is for most people, an acquired taste. It's a really bitter drink, even when sweetened up and boy don't I know that if I ever accidentally have it in a sauce or chocolate. It's like whoooph!

week 43 update:

not a bad week - 3 AF's. I'm still drinking rather more than I'd like when I do drink, but a heavy night these days is what I'd drink as an absolute minimum pre-Nal. my tolerance is still pretty high, so I'm by no means falling-about drunk, but still some work to do there ...

Badger,

It sounds like you are getting those af days without a problem, how is your desire when you are on those af days?

Also, when you are drinking, can you feel the nal stop working? (I noticed anything after 3 drinks the nal isn't as strong and I have to force myself to stop and I am afraid to go past 4).

I am just curious, for I know that we are all different and respond different in this process.

there's still some desire there when I'm drinking, but it's way, way down on what it was pre-Nal when I could put away 3-4 bottles of wine on a bad night. I also drink way slower than previously. sometimes I get very sleepy after a couple of drinks & it's easy to stop just by going to bed, but I don't always get that, not quite sure why :?

Badger,

It is good to know a fellow wine drinker that can gulp down wine like I can (not saying it is something I am proud of).

I was always so embarrassed for drinking so much wine, but I kept on telling myself at least it isn't the hard stuff. Now I realize it is not what you drink but the amount you drink for al. is al. Your liver doesn't say all good it's beer this time so now I can take it easy!

What mind games we play to fool ourselves in thinking it is okay.

Your right I very rarely drank anything but wine and look what happened to my Liver, an alarming 4 times the enzymes that it should be?
This was definitely a wake up call for me!
