Maggie,

That's the joy of living in a bigger city...or near one. We have nothing here...we are lucky to have an apple store!

End of Week 30. My numbers don't look that different, in fact last week doesn't really look that good at all. But things ARE really different. This weekend I did not "overdo it" at all, and in fact once I poured out an entire drink (cosmo, my favorite) and once I left a half finished one on the table at a venue. I think my brain is finally getting the message that drinking isn't giving me what it used to. I know that sounds stupid, but it is like I am very slowly very gradually getting the message in my subconscious mind. Part of me doesn't really believe it yet so I keep testing myself. Like things are drying up and I have the possibility of actually cutting back to the amounts that I would like to be drinking, that are in line with my goals for my life and my health. I went to dinner with a group on Saturday night and my old compulsion to call the waiter over and just order drinks as fast as they could be brought to me (thinking that no one was noticing) was basically gone. I didn't quite feel like I could take it or leave it, but I could see that on the horizon, if that makes any sense.

A couple of things I'm noting. The way this works, for me at least, is very subtle. I have to really pay attention to what is going on with me to even see a change, but I know the change is definitely there. And, the nal does its part but I have to do my part too, to change my habits and my way of thinking. The nal is giving me the opportunity to do that, but I am going to have to do it for myself, at least that is true for me because of the way I drink.

I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone. I can also see that I definitely am going to have to continue this for the rest of my life, because I know that if the "rush" came back I would be right back to where I started. I don't totally like that, but i have accepted it.

I feel very grateful to have found TSM and to have been given this chance to straighten this out. I can see that it is really going to give me the opportunity to make some very big and positive changes in my life. That is exciting, but it is also scary.

Thanks for all the support that you guys have provided. This is such a long and bumpy road, there is no way I could be doing this without feeling like others are out there with me.

xoxo Newlife

Newlife,

I am so happy and excite for you! It is making me so happy I have tears of joy for you.

I felt my brain change before my numbers changed and drinking was not the same (plus getting the nal. overs helped push down my numbers). Once the brain accepts that it is NOT going to feel that pleasure feeling al. gives you, the rest becomes a lot easier (so no, that does not sound stupid). I still have to "test" myself, for having a glass or two does nothing for me except add calories to my diet, but yet I still think having a glass of wine will "help me" relax...and it does not (the nal just makes me sleep better).

It looks like you are using Nal. as tool and helping gain control of that beast al. It sounds like you have hogged tied it to the ground and are not willing to let it go. :D :D

Keep up the good work, Newlife for now you really are going to be living that NEW LIFE,

Jaba

This makes perfect sense to me, Newlife. It isn't just about the numbers, which is something I have to keep telling myself. I have noticed a shift, too, even though I still have cravings and still get that "ah" feeling when I have my first drink. I think that the "ah" feeling might have more to do with the ritual that signifies the end of the day than the actual alcohol at this point.

I am so pleased that you are doing so well and can see even more positive changes on the horizon.
