Ocean,

Do you notice that flat feeling that everyone talks about? Has your anxiety increased at all, esp. when your al. intake decreased? Just curious.

Thanks for your comments

Jaba

No in fact it would be the opposite. Drinking would give me anxiety. Even when I was an active alcoholic in the field if I stopped drinking my anxiety would go way down. Part of the withdrawal was increased anxiety. THe brain would increase anxiety in hopes to get me to drink it away which almost always worked.

I am only taking 12.5mg on the far majority of drinking sessions going up to 25mg on a few occasions.

I'm not really sure what that flat feeling is like. That's not to say I've not felt it. I may have because the one thing I noticed since starting TSM is that I am not swinging way up and downs with my thoughts about drinking and the self inflicted punishment/cure cycle that I've gone through over the last 25 years. So I was like a sin wave so to speak and now it's more like a straight line. But that's not to be confused with depression. I've always been happy about just about everything except for the hangovers and insane desire to drink.

I could also be very bad at self diagnoses ;) But as far as I can tell I've never really had symptoms of depression.

When I first started taking Naltrexone I'd swear that I could feel it kick in and that the desire to drink would go down. I know they say this isn't the case but I thought it was there.

I have not heard anything about low dose Naltrexone, are there any published journals on that issue?

Steve,

I did see a doctor doing the LDN verse the HDN and I believe there is a place in Colorado (I think), I will try to find it.

It didn't go into detail; however, I do think the doctor there is using LDN for AUD but I believe it is an inpatient program. I didn't post the link because it did not go into detail, and did not have any medical/scientific research claims (I did see that they are hiring).

I have seen post on forums with people using LDN and having problems with depression. Some had sleep issues that caused their depression to increase. But having a disease (ms, parkinson, lupus, etc.) that uses LDN may cause the depression as well. Once again is it the nal. or a underlying condition or predisposition for depression.

I did read on someone blog that she is on a bunch of meds for depression, one being nal (unsure if it was LDN). She has that she had a cocktail of meds from progesterone, Adderall XR and I believe an antidepressant. It may be the reason I feel so much better on the nal. than off. She actually had a genetic test done to find out that she had either an over or under production of dopamine (I think unsure).

I find it fascinating all the uses they are using nal for, and I read that they are doing a study with nal. with a type of pain medicine for a antidepressant. I find it hard to believe it will pass...but the mice/rat are doing just fine on it

I have seen doctors using it, and such, but no published articles...but to be honest I wasn't really looking. Interesting topic I would have to find out if any studies are out there.

Those are great links and articles. Of particular note is the success on human subjects in the last study using doses of .125mg (Very Low Dose Nal).
On the C3 forum I was pointed towards a company using a low dose form of Naloxone in nasal mist form to control binge eating. The nasal application is brilliant marketing. No reason LDN could not be used just as effectively.

The main question again for me is do we need HIGH dose Nal and the total shut down of endorphins in order to control Al. If we can control Al with LOW dose and reap the other benefits of LDN or at least NOT cause harm to ourselves...I think we are ready for a new testament to add to Eskapa's old bible.
Ok. Off soapbox again for now. :)

Steve.

Steve,

If you are really wanted to find out, you could contact the fire mountain program and ask if they use LDN for al. and what is their thoughts of it.

Dr. Bihari had seen no progress in the 50 mg dosing for drug addict and then they were dying from AIDs. He started using the LDN for the AIDs patients (as I understood it) because the higher dose wiped out the good endorphins and it wasn't helpful.

I did read in a couple of places that the nal. at a lower dose do not completely block the endorphins (5mg and lower). And if we wanted to completely block the we would need a higher dose. Some feel that the nal at 50 mg is too high and others feel that going lower and not completely blocking all the receptors is playing with fire.

In my opinion I feel going to 1/4 or a 1/2 (not LDN) for maintenance would be fine, but to take it before you have control is reckless.

Please note:
I am not a pharmacist nor am I a medical professional and these are not facts. This is what is out on the net that I felt interesting.

Agreed. All is pretty much unproven opinion at this time.
Dr Bihari experimented quite a bit, esp. on aids patients. In his opinion, any dosage OVER 5mg was too much for LDN benefit as blockage lasted much too long.
