Ocean, Thank you for taking the time to tell me that-and you are right, he does need to read and get on here. I'm being patient though. Going to the Dr. and getting the script for Nal was a big step. I do think he is kind of hoping it will be a magic pill and just do it all for him. He did notice a big difference in the beginning with the craving decreasing and that initial rush missing. he said he finally understood why alcohol was considered a depressant. However, as Jaba explained to me, the honeymoon phase is over. He is beginning to track with the app-today. I have it set so all he does is click for every tall Budweiser. He has a button for short lite beers-but he doesn't go for those often.
He understands being an addict very well. The more I read on here and Options Save Lives, the more I get it. He is an endorphin junkie. He has always had to be taking risks-biking, rock climbing, kayaking. His whole life. He is 48 years old, drinks 6-12 tall ones a night, smokes when he drinks, smokes other all the time, and he could out paddle, peddle, or climb any 25 year old today. He is smart as hell and does his job well. His relationship with his son and me (and because he knows he needs to do it for himself, of course) is the only motivation.
I'm reading about the DHM and GABA now. I'm not going to suggest anything like that just yet though. He is seeing his Dr. this week.
He doesn't care that he doesn't get the rush he used to, or maybe he is still getting somewhat of a rush since he takes the klonopin. Maybe he has so many of those receptors that the 50 mg of NAL isn't going to cut it. I don't know. He still loves getting his buzz though. I really hope that tracking helps this week.
He's not going to read this while he is drinking, and the first thing he does after work is open a beer. Not much time to squeeze in learning more about this...yet. Hopefully when the drinking slows down he will be interested in this. We'll see.
Thank you so much for sharing- and for all of you that just GET IT.
