I am known as Meggie, I have been a part of the Mwo site for many years. I have been drinking for 10 years. I started with wine and in the last 4 years have moved into hard liquor. I have quit but always went back. I do well with some kind of medicine so I am hoping this will work.
I had to beg my doctor to give me a script. I go back next Friday to see if he will give me another script. I started at 12.5 and now have moved up to a half of a pill.
week 1 did really well
week 2 drank too much, a friend died from alcohol.
week 3 here I come. I haven't had a AF free day in years.

Meggie - Hi there and welcome !!! You can do this - cannot believe your doc only gave you such a small amount of Nal - in the back of the book are pages for professionals - I know that you have read the book - well, I have been on at you for SO long that I am sure that you finally did read it ? Can you copy out the pages for your doc so that he/she can understand the rationale behind Nal ??? Hang in there - this will work for you !!!

Hugs, Maggie x

I have a counselor and love her. He knows that I see her. I will see what happens when I go this Friday. If I have to I will order from Riverside. I also am not going to tell him I am cutting the pills in half because he might give me a lesser amount. I am finding that I am so tired moving up to the half a pill.
I have read most of the book. It was given to us by Badger and it was downloaded on a computer that had to be sent away for repairs. My computer is now back. Thanks to all.

Meggie, what a shame that you had to beg for medication that might change your life for the better. Best of luck with your doctor. I hope it goes well.

As stated I will buy online if I have to. It seems to really rare for this area. I have to order it ahead of time because my pharmacy doesn't carry it. You would think I live in a rural area, but I think the doctors around here only allow campral, and topamax. I had to beg for the topamax but that did work for over a year. I just get it in my head that I had done well and one drink won't hurt.
I would be interested in how everyone takes the Nal and what are their dosage. I only needed to go to 50 of topamax and it worked well for me. If I remember right Maggie, you had to go to 300. I am presently had 15 mg of the Nal and hope I don't need to go up.

Hi Meggie- yes you are right I did have to go up to 300mg of the Topa - I was thinking it wasn't going to work and then it did ! With the Nal dosage - it said in the book to take 50mg - but I started with 25mg for a week or so - you take it an hour before drinking EVERY time you drink - that is each session, not each drink .... I also found that I suffered with mild nausea initially - everyone is different and you might need to start at 12.5 mg - try it and see. If the 15mg that you are taking takes the desire for AL away, then stay with that - if not, then go up to 25mg. Just remember the golden rule - every time before drinking .....

Hugs, Maggie x

I read something that showed up on my facebook that said that I should try 2 hours before. It made sense because I need to have the brain react. I didn't see any difference but felt I had to hide more from the hubby. As stated before I go to my doctor tomorrow, I have 20 pills left. I started small to work up. I hope he gives me medication. The pills are about 2 dollars a pill through the online store. I am going to start a whole pill tonight. I want to do this before school starts.
Still looking for other online stores. Thanks everyone for the support.

Meggie - please just follow the TSM regime - an hour before is fine. There has been good evidence that that is what is needed - I have no idea where you read that it was 2 hours but I would not think that Facebook is a very good medical advice forum - just go with the 1 hour - plenty of folk have found that works - okay? I do hope that your doctor does go ahead and give you a 'script - have you printed out the pages from the book for the professionals ? As long as you go armed with info for your doctor, that should work!

Hugs, Maggie x
