Sweet Jesus, I can't stop  . Anybody else feeling this way early in? Are you concerned about it?

I'm trying to just pick my battles at the moment, but I had heard that eating sugar makes your cravings worse. Anybody experimenting?

I try to avoid simple sugars, and control my caffeine intake - I love caffeine but make myself have decaff coffee and herbal teas instead.

fried chickn

I know when I stopped drinking before using TSM I gave up carbs. I was afraid of replacing one vice for the other. I have heard two sides of the coin. The sugar can help with the lack of al., and have you ever been to a a.a. meeting nothing but coffee and cigarettes.
The sugar can cause an increase for wanting more al. Who knows, I think everyone is different.

I think I have lessened my caffeine, but I think in the beginning I was so tired from the nal. it increased a bit. And now I started to feel sick after a cup of coffee. The sugar thing is something I have battled with before so I always try to keep that in check. Nal. is used with another drug for weight loss, so give it time and those impulses should calm down.

Friedchkn - I have always thought that AL and sugar are two sides of the same sword. My mum is addicted to sugar - can't give up to save her life - I can take it or leave it. She doesn't drink. BUT my dad who was an alcoholic, every time he quit, would consume huge amounts of chocolate - same for my brother - so to me, they are one and the same - except of course one is way more socially acceptable and does not get you drunk! If you are having trouble the sugar when you cut down on AL, try eating more protein .....I personally think it helps with the cravings - but that could just be a personal thing.

As far as caffeine, I have slowly cut that way back too - I used to drink a litre of diet soda a day - I am now down to one small can of soda - but have done it very slowly over about 9 months! I drink decaf coffee and tea unless it is early morning then will have a cup of regular tea, and have got to the point where if I have caffeine after noon, I have trouble sleeping that night - even more than I usually have trouble sleeping that is !!

Hang in there !

Hugs, Maggie x

...I have started drinking diet soda, something I rarely did before TSM, every day. I don't think it's the sugar as much as a replacement for booze tho...

Well sugar and diet sodas aren't good, but certainly better than AL. I haven't noticed a correlation for myself.

I can obtain a drunk feeling by eating a large amount of chocolate very quickly, and it was very scary when I realised.

Yes AA meetings do make a point of offering biscuits, cakes, sweets plus tea and coffee. There are however two schools of thought.

Some say feed it, some say avoid it.

When I was getting into recovery I ate whatever I wanted however I did find that as I went along the 'treats' got more and more.............and built into a different habit.

It might be worth knowing I do not smoke, I also keep an eye on caffiene and do not use any other mind altering drugs.

So not much else I can do!

UK Blonde that would be frightening to feel drunk on chocolate and if you weren't such in touch with being healthy I would ask about your blood sugar. I did hear that some guy would get drunk by eating high carb foods. His body made some sort of AL from carbs and that made him drunk. Our bodies can do all sorts of strange things.

When I eat large amounts of sugar I do get a drugged feeling - but know that I have low blood sugar. Even a bowl of tomato soup (high in sugar) and whole wheat toast puts me to sleep for some reason - so I do understand the feeling with too much sugar - but I am very aware of my body and reacting to things - I do not get a drunk feeling apart from feeling really sleepy !

I also get energy lows but I am ok if I push through them and nothing has ever shown up on various tests. I'm the sort of person who has mild symptoms, but never gets a diagnosis! I find it very easy to fall asleep but am not bad enough to be considered narcoleptic, but I'm not normal. I have however used sleep as a tool, sleeping is easier than drinking, I enjoy sleeping and can fall asleep pretty much at will and also wake at will. I also use cat napping to boost energy.

Waffling now.

When I say chocolate I'm talking 500g of the stuff (that's a full pound in weight) eaten very quickly.

I'd be surprised if anyone could eat the same quantity, and not feel a bit wierd.
