I've done a bit of googling & it all seems rather convoluted, but I *think* that if you send the URL of the secret group to someone you want to invite via email or other non-FB method (eg PM via this forum), then they can request to be added without having to be FB friends

URL is the https://www.facebook.com/whatever web address

The good news is you're in. You should see the group on the left side of your facebook page. The bad news is you and I are the only members of this exclusive club. So far.

I do not have the Facebook at all and am really wary of the privacy with it - which is why I think I am not going to do it - even to set up an account just for this - I am not sure - let me know if it works for all of you and I might start a new e-mail specifically for the Facebook !!
