I am pulling for you as well and the best thing you can do is to keep up the Nal and know in time it can/will work. Everyone has a different timeline and I noticed for me it took awhile (at least longer than what the average was in the Sinclair studies) but eventually made some headway. Hang in there!

Thanks so much Maggie & Newlife! I did go AF yesterday and am pushing again for another today. I think it is much easier to take it one day at a time (not quoting AA) than thinking too big and getting overwhelmed.
Since putting my place on the Market I have not had my routine of eating properly, exercising, etc so I am kind of off balance right now. Also staying with a friend that hardly eats and likes to drink until 8, 9 or 10PM before eating dinner makes it harder to go AF. I find if I can eat dinner then the urge to drink more diminishes. I only have 19 days left hopefully here, don't get me wrong as I so appreciate staying with her and she is so kind to have me for so long. Anyway I try to do as much as I can buying groceries, cleaning, cooking and I even start preparing as much as I can for dinner early hoping she will want to eat earlier. I am in her house and that is her schedule so I gotta suck it up in the mean time.
It has been super hot here so going for a walk is very hard to do but yesterday was a little cooler so that was the first day I went for a bit of a power walk. I am hoping it will cool down in the evening before dinner and I can go for my walk where I would usually have drinks before dinner and I can avoid the Witching Hour or as normal drinkers call it Happy Hour.
So as I said if I can go AF today great if not when I do drink next I will take 100 mg of Nal 1 hour before, 1 Thrive 1/2 before and see if I can feel any difference.
Anyone that has upped the dose and or added Thrive can you tell me if you felt a difference right away or is it cumulative?
hugs to y'all...
Nal On!

Hi Cheeto - I did not up my dose - well I tried it once and it made no discernible difference (that I could tell anyway) and the thrive I also noticed no difference with - I tried it both ways - for the hangovers and it made my hangover worse as far as I was concerned and also pre drinking and again didn't notice any difference.

I do have a question - I PM'd you and it is still in my outbox - I do not know how to make it go any further ! Did you get it ? If so, I wonder why it is still in my outbox - there is one that I sent to someone back at the end of July too that is still there - weird.

Good for you having an AF day yesterday - and good luck on having one today - I do understand what it is like when you stay with a drinker - my brother drinks and it was always hard when I stayed there - it will not be now I don't think - but it always was! So I do understand ! Never mind - just as you said, take it one day at a time - no worries - try upping the dose when you drink and hopefully that will help you a bit.

Hugs, Maggie x

Hi Cheeto - Half glass here. I haven't posted in about 3 years but your thread prompted me to reply.

If you've read my thread I too was a daily wine drinker and am about your age. I only drank red wine and specifically like Pinot Noir. It took me 17 months before Nal worked for me but when it finally did WOW I can't even look at a glass of red wine without gagging and haven't touched a drop of red wine since.

With that said I'm hoping it encourages you to stay the course. It really does work I promise.

As for me I went the way many do. I ran out Nal and after about a year decided to have a glass of white wine without following the golden rule. I now drink 3 glasses of white wine a day so I ordered some Nal and I'm back to extinguish my new thirst for white wine before I go off the deep end again. I will post on my own thread an update but wanted to give you some encouragement.

Dear Cheeto:

I have now tried THRIVE 3 times. The first time I took 3 pills (which my bottle calls the dose). I drank quite a bit, and it was like a magic bullet: woke up with no hangover, felt great. So the next night I took it again, also 3 pills, did the same thing, and the next morning I woke up feeling AWFUL. So I scratched my head and decided it was sort of an expensive lottery to play. I went away on vacation and didn't take it with me. But I also drank way less than normal, suddenly, so I really didn't need it.

Last night I had two glasses of wine, although they were pretty spread out. I saw the THRIVE and thought I would try again because I am at the point now where I feel just slightly bad if I have more than one glass. So I took 2 pills before bed. I woke up feeling great, could not tell I had anything last night.

So I am not sure what to think about THRIVE. I am thinking that my nal has FINALLY started to kick in, so hoping I won't need it very often.

It sounds like it will be pretty tough to cut down while you are living with your friend, and I would be the same way. If I were you I would just make sure to follow the Golden Rule, drink as you like, and not beat yourself up about it. Think of it as just 19 more days of your time until extinction under your belt. THIS WILL WORK FOR YOU. I am so glad that half a glass posted and said that it suddenly kicked in for her after 17 months. DO NOT GIVE UP CHEETO. I know how much you want to feel better. We all do.

Sending big hugs your way,

Newlife

Cheeto - I hope that you read and take note of Half Glass's post - and the time line. I know that you will get there eventually ! I am so sorry that it is taking longer for you - but as Newlife said - DO NOT GIVE UP. We are all here for you and behind you .....

Newlife - I agree re the Thrive - it made me feel terrible the first time I took the 3 tabs - I have not taken it since then ..... and hopefully will not need to.

Hugs, Maggie x

Cheeto,

Listen to the NAL angels and keep at it and do not give up. It is always harder when surrounded by a heavy drinker BUT all heavy drinkers have wanted to quit at one time or another! (some every morning - when they are hung over) So your friend will be understanding if you have a couple of AF days.

Good luck and keep posting.

OMG Thank You Thank You Half a Glass of Wine as I needed to hear this. I am coming up to 10 months doing TSM and was feeling so down as you can read in my posts. I am totally committed to staying with TSM and following the Golden Rule as I have no alternative. I am so very thankful for you guys that come back here and help us that are struggling along. I will read your Posts and look forward to your updates too.
Again this is just what I needed a good shot in the arm of Patience and Positivity!

Hi Cheeto - I started TSM at the same time as you and I am also getting nowhere. Thank you to Half a glass - that is what we all need to hear. I've also bought Stanton Peele's book RECOVER - recommended by Guapo which is all about mindfulness - I like what I read, I think this may be the way out for me together with TSM.

Do you know how stubborn my mindless brain is? The last few nights when I opened a bottle of wine and drank the first mouthful I actually gagged at how bad it tasted. Yet what did I do? I gulped it down and refilled my glass. Pathetic.

Stick with it Cheeto - I am determined that one day we will both be posting in that Cured thread!
