Week 10- my lowest consumption of alcohol in a long, long time- four AF days and ten drinks total over a three day period. And one of those days included a pool party with dear friends, all of whom drink to varying degrees. This would normally have been a big drinking occasion for me, but I only had two drinks over the span of about five hours. There are a couple of friends in this group that I've always envied. They enjoy a drink or two but have no trouble stopping after that. Well, this weekend that was me! My count was a little high on Sunday night, four drinks total but that was just one draft beer (which I didn't finish) and two glasses of wine. Normal Sundays used to be two beers and three or four glasses of wine for a grand total of six to eight drinks. My overall trend is encouraging and I haven't had a hangover is two or three weeks. I'm starting to believe that these little pills may actually work. I've got a beach trip coming up later this week- stay tuned.

Henstooth, that is wonderful!! The consumption you are describing having over the last week is close to my ultimate goal: 10 drinks per week, at least 3 AF days, and no more than 3 drinks in one day. You are doing marvelously, and so quickly!! Good on you!! XOXO Newlife

Twelve weeks in and I am very happy with my results. This past week I had four AF days and only nine drinks total for the week. I’m regularly achieving four AF days a week effortlessly. On Monday through Thursday alcohol does not enter my mind. Did you hear that? It doesn’t enter my mind to drink. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Pre-NAL I had to use a fair amount of will power to abstain on Monday through Wednesday and Thursdays- forget about it- that was a drinking day no two ways about it. Now weekends come around- no problem- I let go a little, but I’m not overdoing it (too much). When I go out on our regular Friday afternoon happy hours, instead of drinking two pints of beer and coming home and having three big glasses of wine (a years-long practice) I slowly sip the first one and we end up leaving before I finish the second one- I just don’t want any more. Saturday and Sunday nights- okay, I still have some work to do, but it doesn’t seem like a big, impossible, why-even-try goal. I’m drinking less overall and while there will be some weeks of higher-than-is-healthy counts (as in next week when I have a girls’ trip to the beach), I know, or at least I’m pretty sure :? that I’ll be able to easily get back to my new normal when I get back. Regardless of my weekly drink count, I now feel in control of alcohol instead of the other way around. Those obsessive thoughts about drinking are gone, the 3:00 AM regret and anxiety about over-doing it are a thing of the past and I haven’t had a hangover in weeks. Wow.
