This may be obvious but I have to ask it, when do you actively try to slow down drinking as compared to drinking regularly at the start of TSM. I am a little over a week and of course it is a holiday here in the states and I have had family in for several days. My drinking has shot through the roof as always under those scenarios. Several days starting before noon and going right on through to the early morning hours. One night making it from 10am to 4 am. I did take 25 and then 25 on those days and even did 25 and then 50 last night because I was starting to feel the effects of the alcohol. Did not black out or do anything real stupid but I felt pretty damn terrible this morning but that is me "drinking normal".

So do I continue to just drink normal or do I try to slow or stop my drinking. Book should be at my house by now but I am on the beach for the holidays. Opinions please!

I wouldn't worry about it until you are 3 or 4 months in. In a lot of cases, it sort of happens by itself so there's no point in stressing about it early on.

Just remember to always take your NAL, and if you are marathon drinking, -take a small booster. If you drink without NAL you set your cause back because if your brain gets what it wants once in awhile, -it won't quit trying to get it.

Yes, in the initial stages you just drink when you want to, always with nal - it's as simple as that.

I concur with UKB and Clarion - just drink as normal - you will find that eventually things take care of themselves - I cannot remember if I had Nal-overs at the beginning but have terrible ones now after 4-5 drinks -and I never used to get regular hangovers on that amount !

Hugs, Maggie

Thanks for the guidance Clarion, Maggie and UKB,

Ugh! Just posted a very long reply but I waited to long to post it as I got side tracked! But the gist of the long response was to say that the holiday week-end was long and I drank way to much, for way to many hours over two days. I did take my pills (25mg) and then a booster after several hours of heavy drinking on each of the two days. But I still managed to drink enough to black out and get stupid. So my follow up question is, " Do I take the booster pill based on how many drinks I have had since the binge started or is strictly by the time elapsed (6-10 hours) after taking my original dose?"

This info maybe in the book and I have just received it so hopefully it is addressed in there. I know I am not the only drinker that has gone for marathon matches because I always seem to be with several people when I binge ;)

Hi Reboot, not sure how long you have been on TSM and if you are having side effects from it but you should be taking 50 mg of Nal 1 hour or more before drinking which it does state in the book.
I have never taken a booster pill since I take my Nal, drink up to 10 drinks and fall asleep so never need to add to my 50 mg.
Nal On!

Hey Cheeto - I have just started TSM and I have read on other posts if you have a marathon drinking day you should take a "booster". I wish I was more like you and would fall asleep after 10 drinks but unfortunately the more I drink ... the more I drink  ! However for the 3rd night in a row I have been way below my normal intake. Tonight went to dinner at a place that offers 2 for 1 drinks all day. had a lovely dinner with the wife and left my 4th beer pretty much untouched when we left. I would have previously not have left the place until I had finished every bit of my drink and maybe even my wife's drink as well! So I am hoping as time goes on and the NAL works its magic that the need to even think of taking a booster goes away. That is my hope and dream.

As far as the book goes, I am just into the first couple of chapters which seem to be background and justifications. Which is fine with me - but as soon as I read the reasoning and the science behind it on this web site I was a believer. As I act like a junkie when I get on a drinking roll. I have to have more, and more and then a lot more when I drink. I could never scientifically explain why I drank to excess. It is not in my nature to be: out of control - to act foolish in public- to say mean and stupid things - etc. Now that I understand the science behind it - I hope I am able to be rebooted and be in control of alcohol intake for the first time in my life.

Theory is that you are maintaining the same block on your receptors, nal dose in the body breaks down with time. It isn't dependent on drinks.
