Yes, you do have to also put in some effort. Addiction can be broken by the nal, but the habits are yours to work on. For me, it was as simple as having something else (soda) to have in my hand to drink. Also finding other things to do. I wss a bit of a regular at a few pubs. What do you do instead?

Argh my last post was deleted due to inactivity over the course of my ponderings!!! Anyway. My realationship to nal has been less than romantic. After nearly one year my schedule involves waking up at 8 am, going to work, doing nothing until I start jonesing (around 3 pm), taking a nal at 5 pm and getting pass-out drunk by 11 pm. With my particular biochemistry nal is nothing more than a financial burden. Sadly, I think I am one of the outliers that are unesponsive to this treatment... :(

I am now on the shrink regimen. Maybe the two will coalesce and be the magic bullet...

Somehow I am terrifed that I will need to detox and go the route of "forced" sobriety.

****.

It ain't easy folks....

And you know what folks? I read the cure for alcoholism and I followed the golden rule to the "T". As others have pointed out, it would seem as though my particular flavour of disease exhibits genetic variants that simply do not respond to nal... I wish you all luck and it didn't work for me. Alcoholism is the pits that much is for sure.

I'm sorry to hear that, GoatBeard, but I think you are right. After this much time, with no improvement at all, you're probably addicted via some other means.

I'm sorry. I hope you find an approach that works for you. Addiction sucks.

Thanks for the flow chart tip. I didn't understand about the 4-hour half life. Will try that.

Not sure if Goatbeard even comes here any more - but he said in his first post that he had followed the regime for nearly a year with no results - if he started posting when he started taking the Nal it was only 7 months - it can take two years for some so I think he needs to give it more of a chance - I shall keep taking it for as long as needs be !! Plus you do need to put some effort in. It is not a magic pill! I hope that he sees these posts, comes back and continues with it - there is NO alternative (that is going to be my epitaph - LOL)

Hugs, Maggie

Clarion - if Goatbeard was trolling, then yes it should not be resurrected - BUT I liked the flowchart - when I posted in reply to this thread I somehow missed page 2 (DUH !) but then went back and saw the flowchart - which is interesting. so, even if he is a troll - no worries - the chart is interesting for all!! To me, it didn't sound as if he really wanted to quit anyway .....

Hugs, Maggie
