Sounds really good Zontar! I am so happy for you that this is shaping up so well and great that you have someone else to talk to about it too .....

Good news for you Zontar. That all sounds wonderful. The social events and "big" events, especially obligatory ones that I don't necessarily want to be at are the hardest for me. You are learning how to handle it. Good for you!!

aahhh.....rough day at work, but headed to a baseball game on a gorgeous night. sneaking two beers in my backpack for the whole night (they're $7 at the game!).

this is tradition with me but previously I'd have a few prior to going as well.

Nal hasn't cured the tightass in me, at least!

Two beers is certainly respectable. But here in FL they make you open your backpack!! Hope you had fun. Newlife

oh, Newlife, they make us open bags too. that's what secret compartments are for! ;) it was great to sip on two beers and nothing else. my sneakiness felt PRACTICAL this time instead of DESPERATE. (I'm great at justifying, aren't I....)

had a crazy week, finding out I MIGHT have a 31 year old biological son I never knew about (I'm 50). talk about surreal. now, pre-Nal, I would have freaked out and wrecked myself with a couple bottles of wine upon receiving this phone call from said "son". oh, sure I had an extra BIG glass, but the rest of the week was better than last! I can tell my ability to "justify" excessive drinking just isn't there like it was before.

this has been a strange, fascinating experience (I'm sending in DNA tomorrow) and staying pretty sober through it has been awesome. I won't go into big details on this (unless you want to PM me), but it's a great lesson for me in taking life as it comes. I thought this stuff only happened in bad TV movies and advice columns!

anyway, thanks for the support as I'm really trying to stay the course right now as I go into this journey!

zontar - I am new here but pretty impressed with you being able to cut your drinking down in such high stress situations. And I was just wondering how you went about the first couple of weeks - did you try to cut back - or did it just happen. or did you just try to drink "normally" which was way to much. I wonder -and may ask this question in a general forum -but am I supposed to continue to over indulge in the first couple of weeks as long as I follow the golden rule?

Zontar - that is amazing about your 'son' - my hubs was adopted (he is 65) and through Facebook found what they all thought was a biological half sister - did the DNA and all and it turned out there was only a 32 % chance - he was really disappointed. How would you feel if this does turn out to be your son? PM me if you want if you do not want to put it all out here ....

SO happy that you are doing so well with the AL - laughed at the 'secret' compartments in your backpack! Way to go with so few drinks at the game - things are really falling into place for you !!

Reboot - for the first few weeks, I just drank as usual - didn't try and do anything different. In my opinion, let the body get used to the Nal - just as you said, ALWAYS follow the golden rule. If you want to try and cut back, great - I found in the first few weeks that I didn't want to drink as much - I had what they call the 'honeymoon' period. It all went back up again after a short time though. Just go with your gut initially....

Hugs, Maggie
