It sounds like you had had enough and decided to do something about it.

You've had a real break through and I'm really pleased for you.

That's great! Congrats!

Do you find taking the Nal is worth it just to have one drink? I find I can have a "taking a Nal isn't really worth it for one drink so I'd better want at least 3 if I take a Nal" feeling. Do you worry about being on Nal too many days?

End of week 8 update!
Total number of drinks - 6. AF days - 2. Average # drinks / session - 1.2. Daily numbers were 1, 1, 2, 0, 0, 1, 1.

So this week I actually drank within the parameters of a healthy, moderate, normal drinker. Unbelievable. I never thought that would be possible or expected this method to work so quickly and miraculously. If I can continue to post numbers like this and not go back to heavy drinking, I may soon be ready to add myself to the cured list. I feel like my mindset towards drinking has completely changed. The idea of having a drink or two seems nice to me, but then once I have that drink there's just no compulsion to have any more, and I feel satiated and ready to stop. The idea of polishing off a whole 12-pack just seems disgusting now, and yet just a couple of months ago I was in place where when I was on a binge I'd go through a 30-pack in a night. What an amazing transformation in such a short time.

Awesome!.

You're seeing the best result of all with TSM. You don't want to overdrink, whether you're taking Naltrexone or not. All good !

Your sentiments are exactly how I felt, and it's almost 2 years here. Abusing alcohol or inebriation are inconceivable now.

"Cured" is a tricky concept. It implies having had a disease. For me, ending a toxic love affair with alcohol, and not wanting to ever become intoxicated = Freedom !

Once you are away from incessant drinking, your perspective and mind will change. It is subtle, but dramatic. May take awhile. Astonishingly, life is way better clearheaded.

Carry on !

I actually do currently find it worth it to take a Nal and have 1 drink. As I said, I do look forward to the 1 drink but then don't want any more. Since I don't notice any significant side effects from the Nal and since it is supposedly very safe at this dose, I don't see much reason to worry about taking it regularly (aside from paying $40 per 30 pills which isn't so bad). It's possible that with time having the desire for even the 1 will fade away.

@Guapo, I agree that "cured" isn't necessarily the best choice of word because we do still have the genetic makeup of alcoholics, so "effectively cured by ongoing compliance with the golden rule" might be a better way to say it. In any case, we agree that it amounts to a certain freedom from alcohol, though I probably should be a little more cautious before declaring myself to be completely 'there' yet.

I'm with you je3625, I don't really have any downside with the nal so it is worth it to take it for 1 or 2 drinks. I think on this forum anyway that puts us in the minority, though. Guess we should consider ourselves lucky.

So happy for the place you are at!! xoxo Newlife

Your pattern seems similar to mine (if you want to look up my old posts). I got all the way down to one or 2 drinks, but after some 36 years of never having a single day without alcohol, I just could not go AF. I was (irrationally) terrified of the thought. So I kept on with Nal and 1 or 2 drinks. But then I began to wonder what I would feel like with Nal no longer in my system. And the thought of that was what finally convinced me to take the plunge. I went AF and stayed that way for 7 or 8 months. Now I occasionally have a drink or two (with Nal of course), and consider myself cured. Sounds like you'e almost there. Congratulations!

Just keep in mind that for the rest of your life, you will need to keep some Nal around, just in case.

Wow, Clarion, thanks for that. There are so many different ways that this drug works. Thanks for the input. Hugs from Newlife

Well, tonight is the hockey game, which means a visit to the sports bar.

The 12.5 mg dose sounds good, and with just one beer, that should work out well.
