Hello Snapdragon,

I have been following your Progress. Sounds to me like TSM is working. You could seize the moment of no craving and try to break the habit with some AF.

All the best.

Wow, this is now your opportunity to decide what YOU want. Sorry if it sounds stupid, but if you are unhappy drinking and are not experiencing cravings, it might be time to take that leap. Do not be afraid.

Well everyone - haven't posted for a while, but reading Cheeto's progress compelled me to give an update. Like her I am making no progress at all. I feel that I should make excuses - but that's what addiction does and I want to be totally honest.

I have now been taking Selincro almost every day for 6 months. I have said that I feel less of the physical 'craving' I don't obsess about drinking all day long like I used to, however, having an AF day is near impossible. For some reason I just can't do it. I have had days when I'm adamant I won't drink. I will get to 7pm and then think - Oh I'm going to take a Selincro and have just a glass of wine. But I simply can't have one glass of wine. I still feel compelled to drink the whole bottle (and sometimes more).

Selincro is making me feel 'blaahhh' most of the time. I don't feel so much joy in life anymore. I feel tired and depressed and could quite happily stay in bed all day. Six months!

I must admit, I am beginning to wonder if this will ever work for me. I can't image at this point in time being able to go an evening without drinking wine. On the very odd occasion that I have managed an AF day, all I can think about is the following day when I can have wine.

I'm not giving up yet - but I am seriously praying for a miracle here!

Just read the whole of your thread, and all I can say is i feel the same as you. This daily habit, I just cannot snap out of! I'm sick of this, but only been on NAL since January. I am hanging on to what I've read here, in that it could be 6-12 months.....I'm just impatient, but maybe that's a trait of a drinker, who knows?

I will plod on hoping for a miracle........I know I need to enforce an AF day. Easier said than done when you live alone, and the vino is your company!! Feeble excuse, I know.....

Snapdragon and summerglow; There are quite a few for whom TSM has taken a year, and sometimes even two to work. I know that isn't what you want to hear, but, without the nal you'd be drinking anyway, right? So if there is even a chance this will work for you, does it make sense to take it? Wishing you both a breakthrough, really and sincerely - Newlife

Keep in mind that taking an opiate blocker daily will likely blunt the genuine pleasure to be had in many aspects of life, including alcohol.

Since you're wanting to get away from drinking every day, that means using the opiate blocker infrequently, which would lead to a better state of mind

Getting away from drinking every day will do the same thing, so in both respects it's a win -win situation.

Yes , you are right, we would be drinking anyway, and much worse than now, so plod on is what I'm going to do.

Thank you!

I'm a bit worried today as I went to order my repeat prescription for Selincro from Pharmacy2U and was told that I have to have a new consultation with the online doctor and submit a two week drink diary. I know I'm being pessimistic but I'm now worried about what to do if they refuse to prescribe me more. I will await a reply, but I'm trying to think of Plan B if they won't prescribe more.

isn't that the same as you had to do initially? you should just be able to submit the same again - they're just looking to see that you fall into the prescribing guidelines (above recommended levels, but not more than double), not whether you've made progress

go to your GP? try Naltrexone?
