I have not seen much change at all in my drinking. Also there was no honeymoon period.
For the first 4 weeks I would get slight stomach cramps after taking naltrexone. Also I notice that I have very vivid dreams. But I've always been a person who has had weird dreams.

I drink a bottle of wine a day, I can't be bothered to calculate units. My goal is just to drink the occasional glass of wine.
Before starting with naltrexone I was drinking a bottle of wine, but not everyday. I made the conscious decision to nal and drink everyday so that I could speed up the process. I'm hoping that soon the nal will kick in and I will want to drink less because I don't feel well drinking everyday and my mouth and throat are a little sore.

Hmm. Are you taking any other medications?

Are you taking 50mg 1 hour prior to drinking everytime?

Tough to see what is going on here if you don't track anything...are your craving levels reduced at all?

Dolly, W2E expressed my sentiments exactly. Hellooooo??? This is a life-threatening disease we're dealing with. The least you can do is 'track units.' This doesn't have to be rocket science. If you drink a bottle of wine, that's 5 units (as W2E and I track - a personal record). So put a spreadsheet or word program up on your 'puter, and every morning count the number of 'dead soldiers' in the trash. One empty bottle = 5 units. Then look in the fridge. Half empy bottle? There's another 2 1/2 units. Simple, yes?

And this is definitely NOT for the 'miracle pill' person, or anyone who gives up at the first sign of struggle. This works over a matter of many months, for most people. Our progess is spotty, and somewhat like a roller-coaster. We just stay the course, and keep two rules: take Naltrexone one hour prior to drinking every time, and keep a drink diary.

Sounds simple - and it is. But our alkie brains can sure make a simple program seem like a mathematical equation!

I'm at 8 weeks. I wrote that in the subject line.
I am tracking the bloody units. I drink a bottle of wine a day. 750 ml. I don't need to write it down.......it's in my head along with Einsteins theory of relativity.
When I drink less than a bottle a day that will be an improvement. Its not brain surgery.

And of course I'm taking 50 mg one hour before I drink. I have been able to read since I was 4. Take 50 mg naltrexone one hour before you drink.......if the rats could read I think they would have found that a simple enough instruction!

And this is a magic pill! Follow the regime and after 3 to 5 months or so you will be a social drinker or abstinent. If that's not magic I wonder what is.

And one more thing. I'm managing my drinking problem. And I have decided how to manage it based on the information I have gathered. I have decided to drink every day because:
In the case of alcoholism, the behavior is the consumption of alcohol, and the reward occurs when the neurons involved with the drinking behavior receive a flush of endorphins. By this theory, if the drinking behavior occurs and the neurons do not receive their flush of endorphins, then the pro-alcohol conditioning should be extinguished. In practical terms, if you drink and the endorphins are blocked from stimulating the neurons, then you lose interest in drinking. By this means, the urge to drink that is the cause of alcoholism is eliminated and the alcoholic regains control of their drinking.
I'm speeding up the process. I have decided that the amount of alcohol I drink, while excessive for me, will not kill me in the next three months or so, my liver studies are good, so I've been told.

Sounds like you have a solid handle on TSM. Also sounds like you know how to keep it simple and not be alarmed about lack of results in the early weeks. Please keep posting your experiences.
