Anyone tried this? I am, goal is abstinence, I realize others have other goals and respect theirs.

Topamax seems to help with the craving to a material degree. Just wondering about interactions, I have only been on this two days, so my experience are by no means a long term research study.

Just curious if others tried these together, or other combinations.

Thanks for your input.

I know nothing about it, but I'm curious why you'd want to? The Topamax is a daily thing that can curb the cravings. But you're thinking with the NAL in case the Topamax lets some cravings through? Have you tried either alone yet?

I figure the topamax will reduce the cravings, not eliminate them, and the NAL will block the endorphin's, so the reduction in # of drinks will be greater.

Its an assumption, not backed by the first ounce of research. Figured I would try it on myself. Doc went along and said no interaction between them, so why not.

According to this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3063512/pdf/nihms-280841.pdf Topamax have multiple function including partial antagonist and increase other kind of opioid if I'm correct. Because Naltrexone is a full antagonist, it may have huge conflict of using both at the same time and experience unexpected result.

I'll not attempt this if I was you before consulting a Dr. I'm waiting to see further progress on your treatment with Topamax.

Hi Numbers - I took Topamax a few years ago and did actually quit with it - for 8 months but due to SE's had to finally stop it and then went back to regular drinking. I had to get up to 300 mg though for it to work for me - are you following the titration schedule properly? You must do that or it does not work ... and trying to make it go faster doesn't work either - I speak from experience ! Feel free to PM me if you want more info .... I am not sure if I personally would take both Topa and Nal - the Topa, if it works, stops you from wanting the AL, but as soon as you stop taking it you are back to square one .... but see how you go ....

Hugs, Maggie x

Numbers - in another thread you mentioned that you were using a sleep aid that really worked - what is it ? I am so fed up with not sleeping and have tried about three or four different things from the chemist/health store and nothing so far helps .....
