Day 412 AF now. Just wanted to update since I've been off the forum so much. I'm a bit lost on everyone's stories at this point.

Anyway, I guess my latest thing is that I finally got off Benadryl (about six weeks ago) and diet Dr. Pepper (about 2 months ago). Not that either of these is horrible, just trying to use my newfound will power to be "addiction free," (for whatever that's worth). Still planning the "big move," have an out of state interview in two weeks in our dream location. My wife is EXTRA anxious and worried about everything (she calls herself a "realist"), but I'm just trekking on getting stuff done and making things happen. I'm hoping when all is said and done, we will enjoy our new life and (especially) our new time together -- NO MORE NIGHT SHIFT AFTER 10 YEARS!! Woo Hoo.

None of this would be realistic if I hadn't stopped drinking, so I'm still grateful.

Good luck on the interview, stay confident, and I'm sure things will continue to go YOUR way!

Keep on dropping things by the wayside and one of these days you'll log on as simply "Barry" :)

Well done Barry, so refreshing to hear.

I'm still AF, 22 months for me, 600+ days.

Day 470...I haven't even thought of this board for a few weeks and was thinking about it tonight, so I thought I'd check in with how things are going. So, I've moved myself halfway across the country. I'm living in a cool beach cottage built in 1929...all by myself for 5 weeks until my family arrives. We sold our house back home and are waiting for all the closing stuff to happen, so my wife is taking the burden of that on herself and will join me in July with the kids (youngest is 12, so it's not like they're babies). I started my new job this week and everything has been great. The people here are fun and friendly and the area is very beautiful...also "touristy" for the most part, but that hasn't bothered me so far. There are oodles of cool beach bars and restaurants, and this is definitely a "drinking area" compared to my former bible belt location. My new co-workers are also pretty big drinkers. We went to dinner tonight, but I just ordered iced tea. Nobody seemed to care, so I'm definitely not going to bring it up. Next Friday, we're supposed to go to "FBF" (Free Beer Friday), which is some tradition at the workplace. I'll probably manage to weasel out of that one, though.

Anyway, I'm not as lonely as I was anticipating, nor as horny (I always said, celibacy isn't nearly as hard when you don't have an attractive woman in bed with you every night). We've been talking and texting a lot during the day and she seems to be in good spirits. In my spare time, I'm doing some reading, exercising, and beach walking. I still haven't even fished or golfed, so I've hardly run out of things to do. Also haven't worked a nigh shift now in almost 3.5 weeks, so my brain is getting back to its pre night-shift mode (10 years of nights!).

Best to you all!

Sounds brilliant Barry, I can also hear that your lifestyle just doesn't have alcohol in it and that's ok. Inspirational example.
