Does anyone know how long the Nal is effective , assuming it takes 45-60 minutes to enter our systems ?

Have a social situation coming up that will have wine,etc. served at the luncheon and then an open bar in the

evening...not sure when to take the Nal.....before lunch or take my chances with the wine and save the Nal

for the PM ???

It is my understanding that once you take it, it's good for the day. I remember asking if I was on vacation at an all inclusive resort where the bar opens at 10am . I was told as long as I take it an hour before, it was good for the day.

Frrom other threads & those who drink 24/7, they are taking 50mg every 12 hrs. So I think if you take it in the a.m. you are good for the next 12 hrs....you should decide from there. I had the same thing happen last weekend, but was thinking if I was still imbibing after 12 hrs., I would take another 25 mgs. Hated to use a whole tab for just a bit more ummmphhhh...but it didn't happen. You should decide after 12 hrs.

I, myself, am a 24/7 drinker and Dr Eskapa advised me to take nal @ 50 mgs 2 x a day to cover my intake. And I do that when I am drinking 24/7. But as I continue to take the nal, I find myself stopping drinking around 5 or 6 pm, and not drinking again until 9:30 am. So I am definitely making progress.

Apparently peoples bodies can absorb and pass through the drug in different time flows.

Oh, I have a good medical plan so my nal is rather inexpensive.

ART's dosage intake is different due to the 24/7 style of drinking. Most people, however, have a certain time they begin to drink. Naltrexone's half-life in the bloodstream is 4 hours (sources: http://www.rxmed.com, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naltrexone, numerous others). Assuming instantaneous availability of the full dosage once taken the following chart would apply (where HR is the hour, Amount is availability in bloodstream):

8 13mg
12 6mg
16 3mg
20 2mg
24 1mg
After 24 hours it is almost gone from the bloodstream and at 48 hours there are only trace micrograms left.
ART's dosage would look like this over 24 hours:

All this to say, we are very well protected for the first 8 hours and fairly well protected for the remaining 4 hours, but not so much after hour 12. ART's dosage schedule provides all day protection for a 24/7 drinker.

Bob, your chart also sheds some light on the exercise question.

I usually take my Nal around 4 - 4:30 PM and don't get to the gym

until 10:30 AM, so by then my system is down to a very small amount of Nal

Explains why I still get some endorphin rush from the workout

FYI: This is probably why we've discovered that a.m. romps are best!

Pontiac -- I hope you're not thinking of drinking at the luncheon without nal in order to save it for later. TSM means never drinking without nal one hour before. Dr. Eskapa says we are fully covered for about twelve hours. If you don't keep drinking into the wee hours, you should be just fine if you take your nal one hour before the first glass of wine at the luncheon. It's not as though you'll turn into a pumpkin exactly twelve hours after you take the nal. Have a wonderful time at the event. Yes, we will get there if we stay the course!!
