Hi Miss Cheetoh. It must be frustrating, obviously you are making a really good effort.
For me, I was somewhat better with the naltrexone after six months, but by no means in a good place. It occurred to me, that what needed to change, was my attitude towards drinking.
Just taking the naltrexone, and drinking, was not working, as I could drink past the temporary sleepiness etc., and be right back where I started.
Ultimately, success involved regarding alcohol in an entirely different way. Not by abusing or becoming intoxicated, as it accomplishes nothing. It's worth noting again, that the longer you are are free of daily and excessive drinking, the less you'll want to do it.
I see where NAL worked after several years with people. Is it realistic to wait that long?
When you acheive control, what you come to realize is, that since drinking doesn't really give any real benefits, you are okay with that. It goes far beyond taking NAL, because at that point, you really don't want to drink anyway, so you're not taking naltrexone.
It may sound like a cliche to say that ways to deal with urges, cravings, and habits help, but they really do. It becomes clear that most of the behavior was habits, urges and cravings ! Just taking the pill does nothing to deal with any of that.
Behavior can be changed, and that's what will lead to freedom.
