Hello all:
I am a month-long “lurker” who started NAL one week ago. I have been reading the forum for a couple of hours each day, and am grateful for the support that is offered here.
A bit of background: I saw the book at my public library and immediately began researching TSM. I have an incredibly supportive GP who was willing to read the info I provided and prescribed NAL for me. We will be meeting weekly for the first month, and monthly after that.
I'm sure I'll have many more questions, but my first one is this: I am a day-long drinker (since I don't work) and I take 50mg in the morning and drink until I go to bed around 9 p.m. I made a concerted effort to cut my consumption in half before I began NAL and have been able to sustain that. My question is what is a “drinking session” Mine runs from about 11 am to 9 pm. Is my one dose enough? I really need this to work.
Thanks for your help!

Thank you so much for your quick reply. It appears I am covered. I was confused by the discussions of boosters, etc. I'll carry on as I have been. So far, so good!

Thank you for your welcome. I'm now 10 days in, have had only mild SE, and have noticed a reduction in consumption and in cravings. I am napping during the day, but sleeping better at night as well, and my appetite has increased as well. So, overall I am feeling very optimistic. I spend quite a bit of time reading about everyone's experiences and I am grateful to everyone who takes the time to share their knowledge and encouragement.

Hi Tweed - and welcome. I am 3 weeks ahead of you I think ..... and am happy to hear that you are already noticing a difference. Like you, I drink in the day time - but usually stop before 5.00 or so - but noticed a difference my very first week - and have been going down VERY slowly ! But it IS a downward trend - I am so happy that your doctor is supporting you on this - it makes things so much easier !

hugs, Maggie x

Hi Maggie: I'm going to watch your progress with great interest - our pre TSM consumption is also roughly the same, so I'm going to be chasing you all the way! Yes, my doctor is wonderful, he was familiar with the drug (apparently used to detox addicted newborns) but was unfamiliar with TSM. He spent a lot of time reading the material I gave him, and as I mentioned we are meeting each week to evaluate my progress (that also helps keep me on the path) I am trying to use some willpower to avoid drinking if I don't have a craving because I do notice that some of the drinking is just a habit. Thank you for your support
Hugs to you as well!
Tweed

Tweed - I was feeling very much that I had reached a stuck point but was told in a few posts (thanks people !!) that I was not giving myself enough credit - I KNOW that it took a long time to get where I was before I started TSM - so it is not going to be sorted overnight. I feel that once we start something we want it sorted NOW - at least I do, but I also know that isn't going to happen. I need to let the Nal do it's thing - it is - I think ....

My doctor also wanted me to have follow up appts., BUT I knew that a month was not long enough to do anything - and it wastes my time and his so I have never made another appt - when I run out, I will ....

Whenever I start to doubt TSM, I read the posts here - it CAN happen - UKBlonde is proof of that ! I was on the MWO web site and used to see her posts before TSM ....

We can and will do this ....

Hugs, Maggie x

Hi Maggie: I think your progress is admirable. During the month I spent researching TSM I think I understand why that can happen, or why there could be a plateau. We're indoctrinated to believe that progress should be a straight line (down). Your progress has been sure and steady. I think I've managed to make a signature, let's hope it works.
